OK, the dev's said there will be a clues in Rebellion as to what is chasing the Vasari and apparently it's not Sam Neil returning in a ship that vanished into a black hole for fifty years.

They also suggested that they thought it was possible some might get it rather quickly. 

To this end, I posit my guess.

I kept noticing in the varying screen shots the new Vasari ships.  We know the Vasari are quite happy to have institutionalized slavery and to force it on advanced but less powerful empires.

There's one theme in all the ships I saw..."Bugs Mr. Rico...zillions of 'em!".

I suggest the Vasari "assimilated" a space-faring insect species and experimented on them to gain their weapons and travel capabilities. 

Ever poke a stick into a wasp hive?  I did once.  There was a wee hole in the ground about three inches deep with a single yellow jacket in the bottom of it.  I killed it with a stick and then discovered that it was the entrance to a hive. 

Ever see the cartoons where the moving swarm comes out after the cartoon character? That's what happened.  A massive "nanite" cloud of angry wasps came out and chased my brother and I to the back door of my grandmother's house.  She wouldn't open it  because they were bouncing off the screen like machine gun bullets.  We ran to the front door on the other side of the house and when she got there, she couldn't open it either as they had followed us around.

Finally my aunt let us in and threw wet blankets over us and brushed us off with brooms.  I had been stung 32 times and had wasps in my nostrils, the corner of my eyes, between all of my fingers and dozens embedded by stingers in my belt, shoes and jeans.  The city sent an extermination crew out the next day and after gassing the hive dug it open.  It was 4 feet deep, 15 feet wide and 32 feet long.

I believe the Vasari poked a stick into a hive and now the swarm is after them.

If I am vetted officially at some point as being correct, I prefer to be thereafter referred to by name with the honorific, "Most  Mighty and Wise" prefacing it.

I just registered to share my ideas about what it is that is chasing the Vasari (i really feel sorry for dem)

Option 1) the Greys. Well you know, the greys!

Option 2) psionic slaves.

Option 3) something like the Reapers (ME)

Option 4) some sort of life but not as we know it (i.e. living cloud!)

Option 5) orks!

Anyways, I would not stick too much to the fact that the adversary drove Vasari insane. I do not think we know enough about Vasari psychology to draw any conclusions. As far as we know, it might be some sort of Hello Kitty-product advertising campaing.

2) Why would psionic slaves chase a race? I mean do they enslave or are they already enslaved?

3) Hope they don't have a Shepard within their race, or it would be cool if there was a scenario in which they would to alliance with other players to battle them, although highly doubt it

At any rate they hate the vasari so they could ally with the advent loyalists to destroy what remains of the vasari and TEC.

To be honest, Halos, my theory right now is that whatever is chasing the Vasari is the "unseen enemy*" that is "corrupting the unity" that the Advent Rebels are trying to snuff out.

If Sins 2 goes into more story development I'm fairly set in my presumptions that TEC Loyalists, Advent Rebels and Vasari Rebels would end up being a power bloc with Unseen Enemy and Advent Loyalists being the other power bloc, Tec Rebels are an annoyance and the Vasari Loyalists legged it.

 

*Seriously they actually called it the unseen enemy in the Rebel's description, that's not even subtle.

It's code for 'Bugs!!!' ... think about it. You find Space Ponies in the standard Trinity / Diplo game on a planet ... people just go 'Oh, it's more bugs ... ' that's why there really isn't anything special about discovering it. However to Vasari ... it's why they glass planets.

Making an RTS bug race, it would be difficult not to have them end up looking like the Mantis from conquest frontier wars....i did love that game though. Thematically it was like starcraft in space

That movie was terrible, it started out alright but once they actually got to the ship it was pretty much all downhill until the end.  Personally I was hoping that it had become infested with aliens or something.  Also pure randomness does not resemble Hell.

Replicators seems a good guess.

Vasari scientists played with AI and nanites and lost control other them.

Seeing whole planets and populations being ripped appart by those vicious things would be enough to get slightly mad (or, at least, for being a bit unsettled). And more than enough for starting to run away from the disaster.

The "sins" are pretty obvious : Vasari are gulity for letting loose this plague on the universe.
