He’s blind!

Just discovered that the shard objects in the game are a different type of object than say metal or crystal. As a result, the AI pioneers couldn’t “see” them when it was looking for places to build outposts.

So in your games, you may notice that the AI won’t send pioneers out to capture shards. It doesn’t seem them.

Hehe Always nice to see you posting about different defects that made the AI behave in a weird way.

Now if the monsters can just see (or smell) those soft, juicy pioneers as they stroll by...

That xml code is scary to the untrained eye, I can see how a slight difference in coding/labeling can lead to unexpected outcomes down the road. Love that you are poking away at it on a Sunday evening!  You guys rock!

Brad, I am really curious: What are different types of objects that the AI can "see"? How does it register "seeing"?

Thank you

This.  Now please figure out why monsters can't "see" the AI armies as they stroll by.

The main reason I am looking forward to the next beta is for AI updates. Being able to take all the lair goodies is just breaking the balance.

I agree the better AI will make this game a whole lot more interesting. It's time to get it to the next level.

Trying to work out why some monsters will let my pioneers walk by and even set up a city next to them and ignore them (and even walk away!) while others will eat them as soon as they try to walk past.

Its like.... nice resources there, but big fire elemental.... I wonder... SWEET he is ignoring me!

Wonder if that drake next to that nice gold mine will also ignore me.... BOOM, arr well, guess not.

Monster AI is indeed mysterious. Some attack out of blind aggression, some are extremely cautious or unwilling to move and yet others seem to attack intelligently. I would have to guess that Brad has programmed it that way on purpose.

I like the fact that monsters move in mysterious ways. Not so happy when the AI just passes by and dont get attacked.

You do realize that it does get attacked sometimes right? It is just playing that part of the game better because it knows how the monster AI works.

I do see that sometimes the sovereigns have 5-10 injuries, so I do know they fight (and not very well). Not sure how much that is monsters or who much that is down to warring other factions.

Turn cheats on and watch the AI. I sometimes like to play Watcher and just see how it handles things.

Can a sovereign take injuries, I only see theyre heroes with injuries, though (im playing on normal) it seems they try to gather all the injuries for some secret acheivement :)

On a seeing note, I hope that with the current cost of pioneers that the neutral monsters gets better at defending theyre own home, but also  better at attacking pioneers (since my current tactic is just spam pioneers and move them in the direction till some pioneer succeeds the 50% chance not to be attacked (the chance is a guess).

Nice of you mr. frogguy to notice these minor details, havent really paid much attention to this behavior. :)
