It's a mini Metro Start Menu and thats all

This app seems a little confused as to what its trying to be, it looks merely like a mini or half size version of the Metro Start Menu, the 2 pieces some together but the right hand apps pane can be navigated with keyboard arrows but the left side pane can only be navigated with the mouse and you still have to drag the bottom scroll bar and now instead of taking up the full screen it takes up half instead, pointless.

Its a nice effort but I was kinda expecting something different that a copy of Microsoft's implementation, the only real difference is the inclusion of the Start Orb

People's primary complaint about Windows 8 is getting pulled off the desktop into metro when all they want to do is launch an app from the start menu. This stardock tool negates that and only that particular complaint.

Also to jpickerell I say this... if you want an OS that looks like (desktop) and functions like (start menu) Windows 7, then use Windows 7. Windows 8 Consumer Preview is here for you to test and provide feedback, not to hack and convert it back to Windows 7 again.

Start8 is meant to help by making the transition to Metro a smaller jump.  Windows 8 has a huge number of improvements that have nothing to do with Metro, and those alone make it worth it for me.  Start8 helps by taking some of the shock away from Metro.

No, that type of thing is not desirable at all...i mean it's not like Stardock is built around hacking UI's and making them look like, well anything!!

I'm afraid I disagree with stardock.

Windows 8 has many improvements in speed, functionality and lots of other things.I like all of it(once you get used to it)except having to go to a full screen 'start'(it's not a menu anymore)so you can't see other stuff you are doing at the same time on the desktop which I do all the time.Having to switch between full screens is a right pain.I know you can arrange stuff from the top drag down but it again is a pain and slower overall.

Microsoft has already said it's for touch screens, but they should include an option to have the start menu back with the Metro,or without it.I think they will lose out alot if it stays the way it is,as alot of people will stick with win7 where they would have bought win8,just because of the start menu,me included.

I realize it's in beta just released so I think MS will change it eventually.I got my 1st updates today but no start menu mods unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong, the idea is great but I have a suggestion.I noticed there is a Winx folder with the shortcuts on the menu in the roaming folder under microsoft\windows.Can I change this to my own custom programs? If not, would be a good idea.I placed some of my shortcuts it it but didn't seem to work. This would be a big plus to be able to customise.

I have loads of your software,Windowblinds, iconpackager, objectdock plus, cursorFX plus loads of games,so I'm a stardock supporter.

Is there a beta for win8 with there progs?

I really miss the "recent items" start menu jumplist - any chance of bolting that onto start8 ?

This is perfect, I love it! Would definitely pay money for it. Just wish "apps page" could be rearranged, but that's a metro limitation. I'm currently using it without apps page, on wide mode. Also huge thumbs up for "On login go to desktop" I've been looking for a tweak to do that for days and none of them worked.
