Activation problems

First off, I know that Windows 8 is obviously not released yet and because of that, no one can expect third-party software to work with it yet. However I have installed Rebellion in the Consumer Preview version, and it doesn't seem to be able to complete Account Registration. After I have entered my email and password, it just stands there loading with the circle thing forever. I was wondering if anyone had similar problems, maybe even outside Win8, or if there are any suggestions as to what one can do?

I'm also using Win 8 and get that Problem too. The circle just keeps… circling...

Compatibility Modes didn't help.

Trinity won't register as well. But there nothing happens after clicking "Register".

Help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. It is not sending anything to the stardock servers it looks like. Anyone find a work around?

I have the same problem with windows 8. I havent found a work around yet. I do have some more information to supply though.

It appears the registration system is sending the the verify command. The problem appears to be the reply it gets.

It is getting a reply of $RETCODE=1$ 

It gets the same return code even if you put in false details which is why i am leaning towards an issue with how windows 8 is sending the HTTP request to verify.

 

I hope this helps someone.

 

EDIT: Upon further investigation. The SDActivate.lng file reports response code one is missing arguments.

Therefore it would appear the activation software isn't forming the proper request/ not inserting login details into the verify request.

If you're having activation issues on Windows 7, please contact [email protected] directly. Windows 8 users may also, but as it is a beta operating system there aren't any guarantees there.

Well I suppose it'll have to be fixed eventually ;) Until then, I'm running it on my secondary Windows 7 partition.

I've overriden my install of Windows 7 with the developer preview and now with the consumer preview. I don't want to install this crappy old OS again!

I have the same problem where the register button does nothing on Windows 8 CP.

Support didn't respond yet but if their answer is to use Win7 i'll be asking for a refund... but it'd be sad really.

Running Win 8 CP on a Phenom X6 w/8GB ram and an AMD 6450 HD. 

Sadly it seems I am running into the same problem of not being able to get past the registration. It also seems to have crashed steam on my system but from years of running that program I am not amazed in the slightest. Anyone have any ideas on how to push this forward? Possibly running all of the activation in win7 mode?

You want a refund because there's a bug while using it in a beta, unsupported OS?

That's just ridiculous.

I thought Win8 wasn't officially released until October 26...

Anyway, this is the case for a lot of games right now. There's going to be some friction between game makers and Microsoft over Windows 8, so it's not expected that compatibility problems will be sorted out right away. The best solution for Win8 right now is to dual-boot with Win7. If you can't do that, then you either have to downgrade or say goodbye to all of your old applications.

At least, that's the bright new future that Microsoft sees. I'm sure they would be happy to hear your complaints about whatever difficulties you are having with that.

Turns out there is a workaround in another post. I don't think there is friction between game makers as much as valve being disgruntled that microsoft is coming into its territory with xbox live in win8. Imo competition is good...but to each his own. Windows 8 is released to oem, students, and msdn subscribers already. Its the final software and should be supported.
