8 Hours Later Beta Feedback (Updated)

Here is the nitty gritty. Warning: I've been playing for the past . . . oh 8 hours. So these may be a little raw, but I'm trying my best to be as descriptive as possible.

 

  • The default zoom has changed for smaller ships. You used to be able to zoom in much more, say on an Arcova Scout Frigate for example, and look at all the details while the camera tracks it and such. Is it just me who has noticed this?
  • I believe I tried researching Militia Weaponry for TEC Loyalists, and noticed that it did not improve my star base Laser damage. I cannot verify this and will have to check later, I'm just posting this as a mental note of what I noticed the first time around.
  • I'm fairly sure that "Improved Shield Arrays" and "Superior Shield Emitters" affect star bases, but the tool tips do not reflect this.
  • Some of the TEC Rebels tool tips aren't very clear in their activation conditions. I had no idea how, when, and where Pirate Mercenaries spawn. It seems random. I also don't fully understand how to get a gold by Pillaged War Chest. Call me silly, but the tool tip gives me the impression that an NPC raider would raid for me. Savage Thrill also isn't clear. Is it a normal bonus for all units, or does it only take effect for units bombing planets?
  • I have no idea what Liberated Resistance does. I don't know how to free my fellow rebels, and I'm not sure if the pirates that randomly spawn are related to this ability.
  • Truce Amongst Rogues should clarify that it is the ability that brings peace to not only rebels, but also the pirates. It should also emphasize that this is permanent and won't let you level up from pirates anymore.
  • Sometimes enemy units just stay on the outskirts of gravity wells and do nothing. Happened with an enemy Protev on Point Blank one game.
  • Arcovas don't seem to autocast the Sensor Drones like they used to in Trinity. In that, it was fire and forget and they would do all the hard work. Now if you auto explore, they very rarely do the drones unless you click on them and make them send the drone.
  • What are the activation conditions for the Corsev when it comes to sacrificing your troops in Demolition Team? It would be nice if you can toggle only Boarded units as to prevent it from killing your actual TEC troops.
  • There have been a few instances of units just sitting around and not attacking. Granted this instance was against the Vasari Kultorask and Orkulus in the extra star system on Point Blank, and those two did not seem to have all the features that normal versions do.
  • The Twin Fortresses allows a fifth star base in star wells. Not sure if intentional.
  • I suppose Dynamic Frequencies and Amplified Beam Output's tool tips should say that they affect the Ankylon.

That's all I can think of for now. Sorry it's a little rambly. I can elaborate further on any point if you need more information.

 

New bugs:

  • Using Steam to take screenshots makes the game crash every so often.
  • In one game I could have sworn I was able to make Civics/Military Labs for 650 credits. I have no idea what it was or when and wish I had a screen shot.
  • Another game I got free units at my home world. Free Kodiaks and LRMs for no reason. They just showed up on the outskirts. I wish I had the replay to show that I had them without researching them :( I'm thinking Liberated Resistance bug?
  • @Crisaron - Shows destroyed enemy in the enemy list and stayed stuck there even if no enemy in the pirate well for a long while.

    - Could not use the quick fleet selection around the planet icon for a good hour then it came back, i had to zoom in and manually select each ship or do a screen drag.

  • @Darksxx Auto leveling of specials on a Titan, the game will crash if you right click and have it auto level any of its abilities on the titan.  tried it many times and it crashes each time.
  • Also some AI being tame and not using the Titan, and the Titan not fully using its potential in regards to shooting position/weapons used vs. targets/target order.

 

Otherwise I love it and will play it some more and update this list if I find new things in an updated list.

Me again. On phone and don't want to delete whole post. I tried a random huge map, and the Arcovas are a lot smarter with the sensor drones. Not sure why they were acting up on Point Blank. That'a all I have for now.

+ Default zoom. Yep I noticed it too.

  • I'm surprised how good Rebellion looks with an Intel graphics chip set.
  • Tried to build Titan with only level one researched then wondered why it would only build a fourth of the ship then got stuck. Then I understood why.  :blush:

I second many of your notes, especially Pillaged War Chest, I really don't know what that does. Also, I too have noted that the zoom in distance has been drawn back a little. I am pretty sure Savage Thrill gives the bonuses to all your ships in the gravity well as long as the planet is being bombed, but I'm not 100%.

I have display issues with planets:

- Shows destroyed enemy in the enemy list and stayed stuck there even if no enemy in the pirate well for a long while.

- Could not use the quick fleet selection around the planet icon for a good hour then it came back, i had to zoom in and manually select each ship or do a screen drag.

@crisaron Yeah I was attacked by an imaginary pirate my whole game. I thought I built a star base  over him and he was stuck haha.

 

@mbar8 Yeah this game is even more gorgeous now. I'm going to compare the two later just to see how pretty it's become.

OK, here are my observations and issues we encountered after a four hour long game with the AI.

Played as Loyalist.

The titan ship, it always tries to broadside when its fighting. I personally do not like this, because when he does he losses the Beam weapons. they will not fire when hes broadsiding a larger target like a starbase.  that's a lot of firepower that's being lost.  there needs to be a change to the firing Arcs so they will at least fire the two side beams from front and back.

Auto leveling of specials on a Titan, the game will crash if you right click and have it auto level any of its abilities on the titan.  tried it many times and it crashes each time.

Titan attacking, sometimes he will act like he does not know what to do, this was especially evident when giving them orders to attack Turrets in the Pirate base. the Titan will just sit here and not move or fire.  had to manually move ship closer to get him to attack.

AI builds but does not use thier Titan.  Both AIs built their Titans, but did not send them out or use them at all.  basiclly they became mobile Starbases in their homeworlds.

AI, the AI at level 3 I believe the highest you could go when it was in Entrenchment.  seemed a bit docile. they weren't attacking us like I would have expected.  Will be playing at the new harder level tonight to see how the AI acts.

The hiroshi heal bots. these do not seem to be working properly, they are not spamming heir heals like they should be.  they also seem to not concentrate on helong the ships that are in critical needs of healing.  i had about 30 in my fleet and I still had issues keeping Cap ships alive.  I created a mod in Dip where I replaced the Carriers Embargo with the Heal bots for the Hiroshi but with a bit more power to them and they worked flawless and made the Carrier a more viable asset to use.  embargo is a waste and shoudl be removed.

We played a Four Hour long game and it played pretty smooth.  we did not notice any lag or slowdowns at all with the engine. 

We did have one crash at the very end of the game. we discovered a hidden area wit ha second Sun that had one planet with the Vasari hanging out.  they had one titan and a Starbase there.  we killed off both and shortly afterward the game mini dumped out.  but the game was over at that point.  I have the mini dump fill and will send it on later.

Ther game was a lot of fun,  I was however dispaointed that the Titan forthe Loyalist looked a bit undersized.  It looks a bit odd, as in not long enough. 

The Balance seemed about right.  did not see anything that was out of balance.  I went toe to toe with a Starbase that was semi leveled up against my level 3 Titan and the fight lasted for a while.  i finally had to get a fleet there and help kil lit off faster so I could move on.  My Titan was getting the upper hand on the starbase but the process was kind of slow taking it out.

Cant think of anything else for now.

Thank you for the feedback. I've updated the strings that weren't very clear, so they should be better for the next update and we're looking into the Infocard issues.

Pillaged War Chest is automatic and gives you a credit bonus for each point of damage you inflict on an enemy world.

Savage Thrill grants a bonus for ships in a gravity well while the enemy planet is being bombed.

Liberated Resistance will occasionally spawn NPC rebel ships at your homeworld where they'll launch attacks against other players.

The Corsev will attempt to Demo Team the most damaged ships first.

That's not the first report of someone not realizing why a Titan stopped building, so it may be worthwhile to provide better feedback on its halted progress. Perhaps when it reaches its current build progress limit, there's a voice chirp, notification, and the tooltip on the factory updates to show that a required research is missing to continue.
