Reliquary 0.7

Reliquary is an item mod that adds more items of various strength and quality to the general item pool. That means that these items can be found when questing or searching goodiehuts or killing powerful monsters.

When the Titans came to the Elemental world, they brought with them devices to capture and bind all the magic in the world in the Shards. Suddenly powerless, the wizards of old were washed away by the might of the immortal Titans on the battlefields. And so, for a long time, the Titans ruled over the world, although they squabbled between each other. Perhaps that was why they did not notice that Hosten, who would later on become the first Channeler, gathered all the magical items he could find. His purpose was to learn how the crystals could store mana, and try to use that against the Titans. But that's another story.

When Hosten collected the many magical items in the world into a single place, the Reliquary was born. What Hosten had not anticipated was that putting all that contained energy into one place had consequences. Before Hosten lost control over the Reliquary, he believed that the building itself had become a living thing with magical properties. And one day, it simply disappeared into thin air. All that remained was the index of what had been stored inside. In that index, each item had been described and analyzed to the utmost of Hosten's abilities. Each item in the index had been present in the Reliquary at some point. And the index has also been updated since Hosten's passing, by those with the inclination. Of course, that means that some things written down should be taken with a grain of salt.

After a while, the items that had been in the Reliquary started turning up in odd places. Before Hosten passed on from old age, he theorized that the Reliquary still existed in some place outside of what we understand as reality. Since then, adventurers and treasure hunters have been trying to find a way into the Reliquary again. Some believe that there is a single item that will unlock the way back. Others believe that they must gather those items that have become displaced outside the Reliquary, in order to enter it again.

Version 0.7: Updated to UnitStat Background mod version D

Version 0.6: Updated to UnitStat Background mod version C, which allows modded items to drop. Reduced flesh club damage from 28 to 22. Added support for Angels, Living Stone and Greenskin from the ExpandedFactions mod.

Version 0.5: changed Fleeing Statue to a static value of +3 gildar per season "for a while". Fixed Shield of Mist giving +50% lightning vulnerability instead of the intended +25%. Added 7 more items (45-51). See *this* post for a list.

Version 0.4: Renamed Wineshield to Vineshield. Fixed the Fire's heart effect. Added 8 more items (36-44). See *this* post for a list.

Version 0.3: Added 7 more items (28-35). See *this* post for a list. Anyone who downloaded 0.2 might want to open their A_LIB_UnitStat_BG_vB folder and delete the following folders: example_BattlebornTrait, example_GreyMasterTrait, example_HateAndFear. They were not intended for gameplay, and may be slightly unbalanced.

Version 0.2: Added 11 more items (#17-27). See *this* post for a list.

Version 0.1: First 16 items released. See *this* post for a list.

I've been running some tests and there appears to be a cap of the total likelihood that can be calculated. In the vanilla game, there is a total likelihood of 32899 from coreitems, coreweapons and corearmor. My guess is they've set the collector to a short int type, which would cap it at 32767. I'm going to try reducing every likelihood by half, to see if that opens up space for my items to drop as well.

If I'm right, then reducing the vanilla items by half should mean that half the random items that drop are mine, but only the first 8 or 9 items will ever drop.

Confirmed... the likelihood calculation is a range that is capped at something close to 32767.

Imagine five items with likelihood 200. The game then sets up a random roll between 0 and 1000, where a 0-200 means the first item gets picked, 201-400 the second, 401-600 the third and so on. But the range is also capped at 32767 or something close by. And because the core armor, weapons and items have a likelihood that adds up to 32900, it is not possible to add new items without changing all the core items.

So what I did was, I reduced all the core items' likelihood by half, so they were occupying the range of 0-16450. Then, I added 50 new items, that all had a likelihood of 2000. If I was correct, this would mean that I would only ever see my own items drop from the range of 16450-32767.

Then I proceeded to test the drops in-game, with these new variables in mind. There were two facts that confirmed my initial hypothesis.

First, out of the 50 items with likelihood 2000 that I added, I only ever got the first 9 items. This corresponds to the "free range", ie 16 317 (32767-16450), or in other words, 16317/2000 = 8.1585.

Second, out of a 100 random items I looted, 49 were from my own items with 2000 likelihood. This would make sense, as the 0-16450 range is of core items, and the remaining 16451-32767 range is of modded items - in other words, half the likelihood were my own items, and half were core items.

The solution is to reduce all likelihood of core items by half (or more), to open up the range for our modded items to drop.

So that means that maximum drop rarity is 0.003%, or 1/33000. That's a definite unnecessary limitation in the system.

I agree that it's an unnecessary limitation, but is it an issue?

Well, let's say you want to mod in a very rare drop. Instead of having a single version of the drop, you want to have this drop have semi-random effect / stats, so you make 20 versions of the same item each with a different setup. The maximum rarity for such a dynamic drop is a 0.06% chance of dropping, or one in 2000.

I'm sure it's not an issue in basic mods, but if someone happens to make a mod where you kill hundreds upon hundreds of monsters, drop rate limitations like that can get in the way.

I'd say that's an issue as it makes it necessary to make changes to the vanilla objects just to make your own.  Good job finding this Heavenfall.  I assume you have passed the info along to Frogboy or Kael.   Hopefully they'll make a change here.  I can't image changing this to a long would cause that much of a memory bump.  You could still store the likelihood in a short, but the accumulation of likelihoods in a long.

I'll have to try messing with the core item values so I can see some of your items.

I've talked to Cari Elf about it, but I don't think she believes me.

First off, I don't even know how you figured this out but kudos, again.

Next, in the off time before you release reliquary 0.6, what exactly are we changing?

<Likelihood>200</Likelihood> to <Likelihood>100</Likelihood>

or the reverse?

<Likelihood>200</Likelihood> to <Likelihood>300</Likelihood>

thanks

I'm reducing all likelihoods by 75% in the unitstat background mod. That's from 100 to 25.

So all of your dev items should have values of 37, 50, 63, and 75 ?

Also, I just noticed "Gauntles of Grazna" has  <Likelihood>-1</Likelihood> why is that?

Yes, dev items would be around those numbers.

I don't know why those gauntlets have a negative value, I noticed that too. If they are not supposed to be in the pool it should be enough not to have any likelihood tag at all.

I modified all of the item's likelihood numbers and am getting reliquary drops now. The boots #32 Earthshakers have no artwork in game (icon).

Which faction were you playing?

Custom, always, (amarian based) in fact I have gotten 2 more items and they have models in game, just no icons.

I have noticed that I have had to put custom icons (for my mods) in:

 \My Games\FallenEnchantress\Mods\Gfx

not:

\My Games\FallenEnchantress\Mods\Data\Gfx

I have all mods installed to mods/data (mine, yours)

Yeah, you should be extracting just to the /mods/ folder, not the mods/data folder. You should end up with

mods\relinquary

mods\gfx\relinquary

I'm getting a ton of compass drops now (Like 4 in 50 turns), any idea if that could be due to this mod?  I looked at your modified coreitems and compass is at likelihood 37 so I don't think it is messing it up, but I don't know.

I am using the alchemy mod as well, which I'll turn off and try a new game to see if it affected it.

I have a map set up where I test the drops from the random pool, and I'm not getting an unusual amount of compasses from it. It is either caused by another mod, or you got unlucky, or the drop isn't coming from the random pool at all (drops can also be decided in the goodiehut instead of coming from the general pool).

Tried a new game and didn't experience the same problem.  Odd, guess I was just "lucky" or I really needed to know what way was north. :)

Nice weapons. I hope you don't have to do too much balancing work due to new beta implementations.
