Problem with weather docklets

I've tried weather dockets a couple times, but with always the same result. On both of my systems (Win 7/8) the icon on the tool bar always says "61°" The fly outs seem to be accurate. I'm not sure as I haven't paid attention (and it is always raining in Oregon) that the dock icon is ever anything besides a cloud.

Am I expecting too much to think that the dock icon should show the actual temp?

Weather docklets on my Windows 7 64 bit PC work fine with accurate temps.

Do not expect ANYTHING to work correctly on Windows 8 at this point.

PBBT! Does the same thing on W7 too! Since I'm fighting with 8 and needed something to swear at, I remembered I hadn't asked yet.

I decided just to pull it off the dock. I've given it two tries prior (both on Win 7) with the same results. Win 8 can be forgiven.  If I can't get it to work on Vista Ultimate then I'm not going to convince it to work on anything. Even the information on the flyouts don't change with updates. Funny, the widget/gadgets seem to work most of the time.

Did you try my suggestion I made in another thread to you about the weather ocx?  Go HERE and follow the instruction in the OP. OD on Vista did this from time to time (failed to update one thing or another) on my rig and others and this always fixed it up.

Working so far. It properly says it is 32F tonight. Brrrrr

Widgets don't work - some of them. Others do. It didn't help the ones that give the error message that the ocx has to be registered. I have never had success self-registering any libraries.

You're welcome. ;)

AFAIK, the fix is only for the OD weather docklet. It won't do a thing for widgets/gadgets.

Keep a copy of that ocx, Chances are, it will happen again eventually.

The Stardock weather widgets/gadgets use Accu Weather. The weather widgets/gadgets by me , sViz, Richard Mohler and Chasbo don't. So there is no problem.

Liz, anything that asks you for the ocx is a gadget, not a widget. Anything that comes with MyColors, or directly from Stardock are gadgets.

That said, there are a lot of non working weather widgets in the gallery that will say invalid zip code. They should be removed, but that horse is dead.

Any weather widgets by me, sViz, Chasbo, or Richard Mohler will work just fine.

Please give us a list of the ones you're trying to use and I will try to tell you what your problem is.

I will even try to make some for you if you can't find working ones that suit you.

Any thought as to how to change the weather location because mine still say its living in Kentucky. Where it says click to change location all I get is a drop down saying close an preferences.

@ Uvah. Are we still talking OD or a widget/gadget? Link me to the weather whatever you are trying to run. I'll take a look. :)

Damndest thing I ever saw. I have the OutLander gadget up. Last night it said Greeneville Kentucky and would not change. This morning I call it up and it said New York. I go to click on it and before my mouse got there it changed...again...to West Chester. I didn't even get to click on it. I don't get it. But here's a screenie...showing it working...I think....uh....nope...not working. It was working. Now it went back to New York.

I just dl'd it and ran it on XP which has no DX installed. It starts with Greeneville,TN,( RnD's location.) It will then default to NY. You should be able to just click on the city name and put your zip code in.  You should see a tooltip "Click to search locations" After that, it should remember your location if closed and reopened.

Uvah, according to your screenshot, it appears that you're right clicking. Left click Uvah, left click.  :D

If you get it to show your location and it reverts to NY, you either have a script blocker running, or you have a bad download.

I know you have a habit of "over protecting" your computer, which is why I suspect a script blocker.

Once you put in your location, the gadget writes a script to the external script that retains your location. (Best way I can explain it.)

Nope. No script blocker or other add-ons. Left click, left click.

OK, then your mouse buttons must be configured backwards, the menu I see in your screen shot is a right click menu.

That's right...it is. Left click on the gadget worked but my left click is a right click and my right click is a left click 'cause I'm left handed. When I did the right click it worked. So instead of saying left click, left click I should have said right click, right click. lol
