DesktopX Pro 3.5

Stardock Store

Guys, I realize you're working on an ongoing beta for DesktopX.

I just want to point out that the version of DesktopX Pro 3.5 that is available to me in the Stardock Store will not allow anything scripted to run.

OK, since I have DX beta 3.96 installed on my 7 rig, this may not be important. My suggestion is that if it doesn't work, shouldn't it either be fixed, or removed from the store downloads?

I have tried it (3.5) on both my Win 7 rigs and on my freshly installed Vista rig. Same results on all 3.

Looks like RND's love needs no schedule...

I tried again last night to the same end. I don't know why they leave it there for people to download and then think SD stuff is crap.

One thing though, 3.5 Pro runs fine on Windows8.  Go figger....

Oh my!

I'm SO glad I found this forum.

I've been struggling for weeks with support!

I had long ago installed the Beta 4.  Then I discovered I had this whole DesktopX thing on my system and started playing.  Had a blast!

Then I wanted to be able to make standalone .EXE files.

So I purchased the "PRO" version, 3.5

This meant going backwards.  I shelled out the dollars and I've been in hell ever since.  NO SCRIPT WORKS WHICH MEANS NO BUTTONS WORK.

Nothing functions and support is not answering my emails now.  They asked for logs, etc.  I sent screen shots, logs, whatever needed.  Then I started getting the "we haven't heard from you and are going to close the case" emails.

I finally figured out that when buttons are pressed, scripts are run.  So I found the Script Editor.

For every single Widget, when I try to edit a script, the DesktopX Script Editor comes up but it says "Syntax Error: Expected statement Line: 1 column: 0 Code:<"

Can someone help???????

I'm very lost, frustrated at spending a LOT of money for something that doesn't work, and am left out in the cold by support.  I only happened upon the forum while searching on this Script Editor problem.  Thankfully I managed to debug to this point.

Does DesktoX Pro just not work at all and I won't be able to make EXEs that can run on any computer?

If so, seems like I should just go back to the Beta and get a refund.

Any suggestions at all are welcomed!

thank you all for your time

Mike, 3.5 Pro is broken and apparently isn't going to be fixed. I feel your pain. I have tried and tried to get them to remove it from availbility, crazy to leave it there for guys like you to get and then think SD stuff is crap. I have no idea why it's still available.

That said, yes, going back to the beta is what I'd do. But the Pro beta will let you make .exe files that can run on any computer. (Gadgets)

Sorry for the no help. Only help for 3.5 is a rework. Somehow, it strips the scripts.

Funny that it works on Windows 8, flawlessly.

DX 3.5 has forward compatibility. All it needed was an OS it would run on. :-"

I am unable to reach them for a refund.

I don't get it.  As soon as I gave them enough info to see it's this same problem, the responses to my emails stopped.  I got ripped off.  I really don't understand why they would push away a good customer as I've bought a lot of the programs Stardock makes.

Insult to injury for me.

I'm about to upgrade my hardware and I somehow think my licenses are going to have issues.  I dread that one!

Sounds familiar. Even for direct chats with the developer. But to be honest I am over with frustration regarding DX. I change existing gadgets with an old laptop, don't do any new stuff anymore. For private use, I play with XWidget a lot. It has a logical framework and GUI. No scripting neccessary for my purposes. But : No standalone gadgets of course.

Follow-up on my return of the software.

I did get my refund, and in a very kind manner I might add.  It appears to me that much of the stuff here is sliding into oblivion despite some great press recently around win 8.   It's amazing what a Start Button will do for a company    ;)  (just what does that emoticon mean?)

I'm running the Ver 4 beta with no problems.

I dunno, I suppose interest in highly modifiable program waxes and wains, but these seem to be waning a lot lately.  That's just my ignorant, ill-informed, newcomer observer.  I am amazed at the cool stuff that was developed years ago and was ahead of its time.  Just when I find I need something, I find it's been done years ago.

Anyway, I'm now loading up a new machine having migrated this past week.  It's a not-fun process now but many of these tools do help.

Completely unrelated.... my new machine is a 64 bit Win 7 running i7-3960DX at 3.30 GHZ.  I've got 64 GB of RAM, yep, RAM, and a C drive that's 512 GB SSD.  I build for 5 year goals.  My last machine has made it 7 years easily.  I got lucky with a guy at Intel getting cheap chips and the other stuff is really cheap right now too. It's probably 1/6 th the price of my previous one.

I could use suggestions on migrating my docks, etc, over.  Many setting have migrated from folks like Chrome.  It's not as bad as the good old days.  Sorry for the bagging, but this is the only opportunity I've had.

I'm ready to move to Win 8 as soon as I can but don't have a touch screen just 2 large LCD Monitors right now and won't change anytime soon, or so I think.

Thank you all for the support
