[Suggestion] Make larger groups of pioneers useful

or remove them

As with all other unit types, pioneers default to larger and more expensive groups as you research the appropriate technology. At present, those larger groups are added expense for no added advantage. I would suggest that some advantage be given to larger groups of pioneers. Possibilites:

  • Cities founded by larger groups of pioneers start with more population, or a higher level, or a free building, or a larger area of influence.
  • If roadbuilding is put in, larger groups of pioneers could build roads faster.
  • Outposts founded by larger groups of pioneers could have a larger sight range (but not larger area of influence) or a defensive advantage if attacked.

If larger groups of pioneers are to remain only more expensive, please change the default pioneer group to the smallest possible.

Makes sense.

Agree with everything but the sight bonus on outposts. Outposts are by definition small, having 10 guys assemble and live in a 2 person tent doesn't build the tent faster or make it a super tent. Just dont use large stacks to build outposts.

For cities though a population bonus and temp production bonus would be best.

I was just about to post a question asking if there was any benefit to groups of pioneers.  Thanks for posting your suggestion.  I agree, either pioneers should be limited to only parties (like caravans are), or larger groups should provide benefits like you suggest.  I had thought that maybe they would provide larger starting populations for towns, but I like your other ideas as well.

Yes, either limit us to 3 guys, or have more of them do better things.

Question: Anyone seen the ai make more than 3 in a unit?

Hmm, a bit of a tangent, but having a tech upgrade outposts to towers with a longer sight range would be cool.
