Ordered my first SSD

I finally took the plunge and bought my first SSD this morning.  My main PC is several years old, but it still handles pretty much everything including new PC games without any problems.  I don’t see a need for a full system upgrade at this time, but I figured an SSD would make a worthy upgrade especially with Windows 8 around the corner.

I picked up a 64GB as that will be enough to have Windows on it, plus a few apps and the rest will go to a regular hard drive.

At $79 this is a pretty good deal.

$1 a Gig?   I thought SSD prices would be plumetting quickly (like cell phones), but strangely that is not looking to be the case.

To be fair, prices for SSDs have declined faster than for the HDD(over the course of the decads), but yea, it's still a bit much. Although it's expected to drop to about 0.60$ by the end of the year. What I am hoping is that the ones that can be attached to a PCIx slot get cheaper, since they're wickedly fast.

May your SSD serve you well Island Dog.

They do on a yearly basis, but the demand is very high so they have no reason to drop prices a huge amount.

Memristor tech will probably be replacing it in 2013/2014.

Anyway, congrats.  I have two now.  I love them.  I will never buy another HD.

Correct. The flooding in S.E. Asia took care of any bargains.
