[merged] ExpandedFactions 0.2.1 for FE 0.86

This mod has been merged into the Stormworld mod pack. This topic will not be updated.

ExpandedFactions 0.2.1

for FE 0.86

Players are recommended not to design their own sovereigns or custom factions using these factions. Results will be varied.

Players are advised that when un-installing this mod, you must delete all the unit designs that you have made yourself for these factions. They are located in C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\My Games\FallenEnchantress\Units\. Failure to do this will lead to your game crashing at sovereign selection screen when you start the game without the mod.

Do not report bugs or feedback for the FE beta if you are running a modded game.

This mod will not function with any other mod. This will change closer to FE release.

Installation: Extract all three folders straight into C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\My Games\FallenEnchantress\Mods\

Un-install: Remove those folders, and see the warning above regarding un-installing.

Content as of 0.2:

Seven factions are in (Frost Giants, Drota, Angels, Living Stone, Greenskin, Golems, Centaurs). They have faction abilities, special unit traits and faction mounts (except angels and drota who do not use mounts).

This is a Work In Progress, which means a lot of things aren't as they are going to be later on. That said, the mod is perfectly playable and if you find a bug, please report it in this thread.

Just a post to contain information about the upcoming ExpandedFactions mod for FE.

The planned factions:

Kingdoms:
Shadows (http://i.snag.gy/8oVAO.jpg )
Gnomes (conceptually somewhere between a hobbit and a dwarf - small, but not fat. Vicious. Crafters & Traders)
Elves
Angels ( http://i.snag.gy/oYxRs.jpg)
Living Stone
Centaurs ( http://i.snag.gy/nz2jT.jpg )

Empires:
Golems ( http://i.snag.gy/AKgCd.jpg  )
Frost Giants
Drota ( http://i.imgur.com/2COwB.jpg )
Greenskin (Orcs & Goblins)
Death Legion ( http://i.snag.gy/HTl2u.jpg )
Undead (Skeletons & Zombies) (this one may go or stay depending on RavenX's modding)

Mod goals:

- Introduce High Fantasy races to the game
- Keep it modular - no more weird dependencies
- Keep it balanced - these factions should go toe to toe with vanilla factions
- Each faction should have features that makes the gameplay different
- Each faction should be visually distinguishable

The frost giants are the "giant" faction in the game. They do not train units with multiple members - all frost giants stand alone. A single frost giant is the equal of several men fighting together. They also gain perks on level-up, just like champions would. They also have a mechanic that, combat-wise, makes them similar to ordinary units - as they take damage, their attack will decrease.

Just as those who research the military tree unlock better formations such as 5-man squads and 9-man squads, the frost giants will unlock new cloaks that give them similar bonuses. So the player can choose the strength of the unit after what cloak the unit is wearing.

Frost giants use metal and crystal like other factions, but because they are trained solo (and thus wear fewer items) they produce 80% less crystals and metal from all sources (it's a balance thing).

Frost giants also gain +2 grain in any city connected to a Water shard.

Rivermod: Frost giants may not use magma forges in any way.

Overall, the frost giant faction is tilted towards army domination in the end-game. They are slow to train, but if left alone, will produce very strong units with their own perks from level-ups. They also have a large disadvantage to crystal and metal production in the early game (-80%), but once they have researched far enough up the military tree, the few of these resources they have gained becomes more valuable than for any other faction (since they still pay the same resources for equipment). Their +2 grain in any city connected to the water shards ensures very strong cities late in the game. They also have several traits that are specifically tailored to defeat an enemy focusing on the military tech tree - the most notable is that they have a weak Overpower trait that adds damage according to the size of the target unit. And finally, because they are solo in their units, magic and abilities that specifically kill army units easily (fireball etc) will have almost no impact on the frost giants. Frost giants take 50% extra fire damage, and 50% less frost damage.

The frost giants are weak against champions, and specifically fast and nimble champions with high dodge and dexterity. The frost giants' blows, that are devastating to army units, are easily avoided by the more experienced hero. Frost giants also have a very high cost for pioneers, making new cities and most importantly outposts outrageously expensive.

Really like the different races you are coming up with here.   Looking forward to trying this out.

That is a damn fine Ice Giant. Any reliance on Marvel Comics for that idea?

Yes, but also Dom3.

Can you think of any place I might get some "free use" pictures to use for my quest mods? I want to make it without infringing on anyone's copyright.

We talked on IRC. (I don't want to be the scumbag that appears to not answer questions)

Working on the new Shadows faction. If they hadn't unlocked the use of 64-bit and 4gb ram in FE, this faction would not be in the mod. This faction will probably have ~15mb graphics files on its own (or for comparison, more than everything else in the mod combined).

Edit: Also, angels, which I never posted a screen of:

The drota spider hybrids inspired me to try out for some centaurs: http://i.snag.gy/NCZCg.jpg

I think it will work, will test more tomorrow.

what I do when I need images is go on google search and put in for instance "Frog images" or "Dragon images", you'll have maybe 300 or so different pics & images of whatever your looking for

But they are copyrighted 99% of the time.

ok, did the same thing, only put uncopyrighted in front in the search bar, got several results this way too, I know this is primitive but tryin to help how I can

Never though of that. Thank you.

That's it, I think. 11 solid factions, 12 if the Undead go in. I will release something to play around with after the next beta release.

Wohoo!   I'll try it out at lunch (assuming my work laptop can handle the memory requirements).  Great job!

I'll treat this like a red-headed step child.

Cannibalize it for parts.

You're my hero.

BTW, will these centaurs change dynamically as you switch gear? Or is the gear static?
