PLaying the BETA and I have questions

After playing the demo Thursday and loving it I am finally sitting down now for the first time to play a game. It's really nice and fun. My hireling was defeated in battle and lost an eye this is way way way out there.

 

My questions is this now that everybody is wonded I do not know what to do. I mean my heroes and main channeler are in town resting, I am building structures in my town, but my research is very very slow and I do not seem to be able to learn new spells...

 

Any insights would be appreciated.

Now I've played for about 2 hours and Nothing is really happening.

 

IS there a place where I can see how people start there games?

 

I'm building things in my cities but the research I've only learned restoration it takes like 50 turns just to  learn mining. I must be doing something wrong.
