WindowBlinds application compatibility issues

WindowBlinds application compatibility issues

It has come to our attention that some people may have had issues with some apps and WB and opted not to tell anyone about it.

Obviously we would like to know about them so we can resolve the issues.

If you have had an issue with an app caused by being skinned by WB, please post the following information in this thread:

1) The app name

2) The OS you are using

3) The theme you are using

4) The problem you have encountered

5) If you did report it to support a ticket number would help.

If the issue is visual a screenshot would help and where the app is more unusual we would like to know where we may be able to obtain a trial or demo version of it from.

Please note that we are not looking for bug reports on making skins here.  This is specifically for application issues.

Quoting LightStar, reply 74Did not know that Neil, thanks! Next question... what the heck is DWM and how do you enable it?

The DWM is the Desktop Window Manager.  I.e. the thing that provides glass on Windows Vista / 7.

Without that functional you would get no animations on opening / closing / min / restore windows plus no thumbnails when you mouseover the taskbar buttons.

OK, guess I got it enabled then, thanks. :)

Two easy ways to start it if it's not working... Run your Windows Experience Index.

And the easier?  Start Menu> dwm.exe> click it.

Just a criticism... Its a little disheartening to have my issue ignored for 8 days but to see that you responded to someone else all of 10 minutes after he posted on here! If nothing can be done about my issue, so be it (like i said in my original post, it was a nuisance, but easily one i can work around) but i feel like i should at least have been acknowledged. I know you are doing this as a courtesy, and i appreciate that, so im not really mad, its just kind of weird, is all...

wb compatability error

rec'd notifcation through hp action center that wb compatability issues were causing IE9 to crash. advised to visit stardock to update wb, but can't find a way to update the software, only to buy. not willing to buy new, since this is software I already have.

using Windows 7, just updated IE to v9. The theme is considered "unnamed" and was preinstalled on my netbook when I bought it.

It sounds like you're using an older version of MyColors (which used the WB skinning engine).  We've given them a fixed build.  You should go to them to get the update.  In the meantime, you can exclude IE9

-Open MyColors
-Click on the 'Settings' tab
-Under the exclusion section, click add and navigate to the .exe file for the application you wish to exclude, and select it.

The app should now be excluded from being skinned by MyColors.

Thanks Neil for the info on DWM. My problem seems to be caused by running Ultramon on the 3 monitors. If I shut down Ultramon I am then able to restart DWM.EXE and the MS-Office applications are then skinned properly.

DisplayFusion 3.4.1 puts the time and date in the systray area on the second monitor taskbar. With WindowBlinds running, it doesn't show. You can hover over the area and get tooltips. You can click the area and get date/time settings. But no text/clock/date.

Turn off WB (run aero) and the time/date shows.

Hello all,

I followed the 2nd taskbar thread to this page. but here are 2 compatibility issues that may or may not have been mentioned elswher.

1a) iTunes

1b) IDM, Internet Download Manager with Internet Explorer 9. http://internetdownloadmanager.com/

2) I'm on W7, 64 bit, with 7.7 Index.

3) The Blind doesn't seem to matter but right now I'm on Polaris

4a) iTunes - Granted iTunes doesn't skin, but yesterday I discovered iTunes runs allot faster if excluded from Windowblinds

4b) Internet Download Manager: I use FireFox now and IDM works differently with FireFox so it's no longer a problem for me, but I did have problems with IDM & IE 9. The IDM window frame would appear to be incomplete, (blurred and clear,)  and it would sometimes flicker.

5) I don't like the band Support, so I don't buy thier CDs, let alone a a Ticket to their show,

Hi, I have problems with 3D Applications, WindowBlinds and Aero...

My setup is: WindowBlinds 7.4 - Win7 64 - Radeon HD 6950

I used 3D programs like Lightwave, Blender, Hexagon, DAZ Studio... and when WindowBlinds is on with AERO, their 3D windows show nothing. Only by disabling AERO, the 3D windows work again...

I tried disabling the skin in the "Per Application" menu', but the problem still is not solved.

Any idea on what is wrong, please?:(

With not exceptions I see the following with a new install of Blender:

Other than the title bar . . . what is different for you?

1) Virtualbox 4.1.16

2) Windows 7 64

3) Any

4) Virtualbox gives an Unable to allocate and lock memory error when running a virtual machine.

Virtualbox started doing this the day I installed Windowblinds and stops the moment I uninstall.

This appears to be the same kind of problem that google chrome creates with virtualbox. However turning background/error reporting off fixes it with that. Still get the error with google completely removed and now virtualbox is working again with google installed so it's not that.

Also just to add I am using a 2GB virtual machine on a PC with 6GB RAM, it's not running out of memory.

Does the problem contiue if you exclude VirtualBox from being skinned?

Yes even if I unload Windowsblinds it still happens.

So if you switch skins to Windows Aero Style and then open Virtual PC it continues to be broken?

Camfrog video chat cannot be skinned at all by windowblinds because it has a menu button in the title bar that causes the title bar to dissapear (the button isn't there until you click the title bar, then the window frame disapears only leaving the menu button visible). Tried every option in the per application settings and it still does the same thing. Had to tell windowblinds to ignore the application.

Go to www.camfrog.com to download. Sign in not even needed as this issue first occurs on the main sign in window.

1) Logitech Gaming Software v.8.35.18

2) Windows 7 x64

3) Any

4) Logitech Gaming Software v.8.35.18 will not start as long as WindowBlinds 7 is running, it just sits in the task manager using 25% of my cpu.

If I close WindowBlinds, then start the Logitech Gaming Software, then restart WindowBlinds everything works as it should

If WindowBlinds is launched on my laptop (Win7 x64), 1440 - 900 screen, and then I plug in my external HDMI monitor (1920 x 1080), there is a gap in the texture  (only see this with the SD skins) in the middle of app windows. As the app window is resized (smaller than about 90% (guesstimate) of screen size) horizontally, the gap closes up.

This also happens if I set the resolution of my HDMI monitor to 1440 x 900, restart WindowBlinds and then change resolution back to 1920 x 1080 (only did this for testing purposes)

If I go to "Configure WindowBlinds" and re-select the skin, the "gap" is gone.

See screenshots of gap (3 separate shots in one image)

This appears to happen with all apps, it looks like a resizing issue. I can see where the two images mirror each other where they come together in the center. It's like the skin image/texture hasn't been resized/enlarged enough taking into account the full width of the new resolution.

System:
OS Win 7 x64 Home Edition

WindowBlinds:
WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 7.42 (325 - Windows 7 Edition) - 64 bit OS

Skins:
SD stock skins

I did a Google search and this thread popped up. This is the exact same issue / solution I am having.

1) Logitech Gaming Software v.8.35.18

2) Windows 7 x64

3) Any Win7 skin besides the Aero ones.

4) Logitech Gaming Software v.8.35.18 doesn't run properly even though its set as exclusions

I'm having problems with Windowblinds and the Logitech Gaming Software.

At first the software wouldn't load correctly which I've fixed by adding LCore.exe to the exclusions list.

Now I'm having a problem where if I'm using anything other than the Aero skin the program doesn't display its images correctly.

Pictures explain it better

Aero

As you can see it messes up the Logitech Gaming Software program even though its set to exclude, its really starting to annoy me cause I can't work out what's causing it do that. Its pretty much means I can't use any custom skins at the moment and pretty much makes Windowsblinds pointless
