Yarlen wants your minidumps!!!!!!!!

For all of you that dont know. stardock has an IRC server, and a #sins channel, and often times devs will pop on there, despite the fact that no one else does.

I was talking with yarlens about the occaional crashes that often happen in 5v5s... cause i recently had one of those over the weekend, and I sent in my dump file.

<Yarlen> That makes me rather sad and kinda suprised that virtually nobody has sent us in files about it.

THE DEVS STILL WANT CRASHY THINGS.  some of you with 1000's of games prolly have 100's of minidumps in your minidump folder

Grab all of the ones from the most recent patch, and just send them in in bulk.

they are all right here: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\Sins Dump  they will say the version number. select all the ones with 1.34, and send them to a zip file.   and then write an email to [email protected] and add them as an attachment.

ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!

DO EET.

NOW!

Also. Yarlen has posted below that he wants dxdiags. so totally copying and pasting what he said:

To run a DirectX report, click Start -> type: dxdiag and hit enter on Win Vista/7 (for XP: Start -> Run -> type: dxdiag and hit Enter). Once the report is finished, Save All Information and send that along to us with your other files (zipped).

Takes like. 2 minutes. and will at the very least piss off the devs. with their inbox being full of so many crash files.

they prolly wont end up as pissed as you get when you or an ally gets a crash and it means your team loses the game but. i think they might want these stupid things squashed for rebellion. Wouldnt that be nice?  the answer is YES IT WOULD.

Oh HEY LOOK! Yarlen JUST updated this thread!!!

Question:  Should we send mini-dumps that occurred while playing a mod?  I'm not talking about any graphic changes, merely some basic changes to entity files, so they would not be due to memory or graphics issues...additionally, I'm not talking about the mini-dumps associated with serious errors in modded files...

I ask because, virtually all of my games are played with modded sins...

alas, they dont want modded sins dumps.  mods simply add in to many variables.

Now. if you can reproduce a crash you get with a mod in vanilla sins.... theyd definatly take that.

Nobody like bs- esp in this economy and being in marketing i can tell you that u dont publicize or market well. You need a campaign to remind people what it is your trying to achieve over a long period. Make a video and bump it in a thread or something. Not once for every blue moon- but weekly. On top of that make an effort and release rebellions beta.

I didn't have a good day at work and this minidump thing is just another thing on the list of things the fans want but the devs don't provide and stinks of the same shit i spent the day telling people off about. We need this game  esp after a bad day and we want to go on a rampage and vulkoras desolate worlds.

If you disappear for a long time after sending us a message then we will forget. Just because frodo never forgot about the shire doesn't mean we cant forget what u say. Keep your digital marketing efforts alive because we still love you and love the game.

I assumed as such but I figured I'd at least ask...I want to contribute to the cause, but I don't play vanilla sins anymore...

So... did you send in your dumps?

They're only accepting minidumps from the most recent version though - don't bother sending in any from 1.32 or 1.33.

(not that I would think it should make much difference, since there weren't any significant technical changes as far as I'm aware)

It might also speed things up if you also send in your dxdiag report to them as well (run dxdiag, go to Save All Information).

I didn't know there was a special minidump folder.  Neato.  Hopefully they'll be able to review all the files if they get bombarded and identify the problems.

Just sent 25 1.34 dump files

So... did you send in your dumps?

I didn't know and it wouldnt matter because im on lan and we can't get over 6 players in 1 game.

Gang, if you're going to send us your files please also include a DirectX diag report for the affected machine(s) and save games that reproduce the issue. If you can't reproduce it from your save, odds are we won't be able to find the cause.

To run a DirectX report, click Start -> type: dxdiag and hit enter on Win Vista/7 (for XP: Start -> Run -> type: dxdiag and hit Enter).  Once the report is finished, Save All Information and send that along to us with your other files (zipped).

So far, we're seeing a lot of very old drivers being used, which probably isn't helping anyone with stability. ;)

I would love to send you the minidumps, but everytime my Entrenchment crashes, there is no minidump.I just get the message that it stopped working.

Any suggestions on what to do that I havent already done ?

I've already uninstalled twice, and run system mechanic, checked for malware,cross-checked mods for file size, etc.

EDIT:I may have found the issue.I had to turn all the graphic details down to high, instead of highest.

Now you see- just funny people with bad drivers. Then theres the gpu's and cpus that overheat and the E-PCs that crash out of pure suckness.

umm. if its the computers problem, then it will crash, not dump.

...

duh.

now. since you clearly dont feel like helping, please get out of my thread.

A problem is that many of the minidumps seem to be quite random, like when you select a scout ship, or if you give some credits to an ally, or if you tell some frigate to move in some direction... and it's not likely for it to dump like in a second or two after the autosave... and once it dumps the game is nearly always done with anyway, so reproducing the minidump is next to impossible...

:(

right. exactly. so the solution is to send in so many minidumps that hopefully a pattern emerges.

Will send tomorrow from work. my email is bugged,

The fact is, 100% of 5v5 games that last longer then 1 hour has a minidump. Some 1 some many , but all you need to do is play with us for an hour or so. We just gave up sending our crash reports.

Also personaly i dont think ist drivers issue. From my perspective all my minidumps were when i was in hot situation and tryed do several things at once, especialy with big fleet on screen and trying to zoom in or out or focus on cap  ( rapid change of view). Running background programs, especialy other games makes minidumps much more frequent . Ico is also very sensitive for connection lags and packet loses.

PS if you think its driver issue, especialy graphics driver, make a failsave like in scyrim. U wont lauch skyrim on old drivers.

Heh, that's not a bad idea. If the devs play some Sins in their free time, they'll get the information from minidumps firsthand on their own machines.

I personaly think its related to the fastest setting.

With a lag spike or packet loss, the a game client skips a beat, which on this speed could mean alot of info is gone, and then desync/minidump.

On slower speeds minidumps are rare. While on fastest settings they are common.

For folks who are getting multiplayer desyncs, please see this thread:

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/415093

The more data we get, the better chance we have of fixing things. Thanks! :)

Just send u guys some files. I know this machine is from stone age but it still run sins

When I get desktop up and running again I will send u those as well

Got my desktop up and running sending md with dxdiag from this pc as well.

On other note do you guys also get the feel that most md happen when you rapidly giving many orders in succession in short amount of time. for example feeding or trying to move vasari sb in the middle of enemy fleet???

This has been stated before but I will state it again.  If you close the game after each match, I have never crashed or desyncsx.  This speaks volumes as to what is causing all these problems.  Blair fix a few bugs but it I believe it still something to do with the game not resetting or still reading a system state from previous game.
