New budget PC Build

Hi guys, thought id take advantage of a good Aussie dollar an do a cheap upgrade for my PC

Equal a damn fine little upgrade if i do say so myself. I'm running a Q6600 on DDR2 800 with a GTX8800, and its showing its age. I already have a Corsair Force 120GB SSD on the way, so i'm thinking this is all one neat little package.

Thoughts? Have i missed something? Let me know what you think!

2500k or 2600k with the unlocked multiplier (k signifies it) so you can actually overclock it.  Difference between i5 and i7 quad-core parts on the desktop is negligible (6MB to 8MB L3 cache); only reason to get an i7 is if you're throwing away money or if it's a laptop (no i5 quad-cores in laptops).

2500k is also typically cheaper than 2600.  Saving money is always good, right?

Other than that, looks good.  560 ti isn't price competitive here last I checked, compared to Radeons, but it may be there.

neilo, the only concern that I have with the components you are looking at is for the opto drives, I hope you have sata drives already as the mobo does NOT have an IDE interface, qand the 2500k would be the slightly better choice for the cpu along with a better than stock cpu cooler(allows for mor overclocking( I have got to approx 5ghz with an I3 with a ah60 water cooler on stock voltages and slow ram(1333mhz))

@harpo, i have a Corsair SSD already in transit and i'll be reusing my 2x1TB SATA drives, thanks! I was planning on using my tried and trusted DuoOrb for the cooling, not interested in water cooling at this point, and provided the DuoOrb fits (i'm hoping it does) i'll use that. If it doesn't, i certainly will be seeking out a suitable replacement. I had my current rig up to 4.0GHz with the DuoOrb, so i'll stick with it if i can, i'm not a huge overclocker.

That's two voted for the i5 over the i7, this looks to be the answer then,

NO! not the 2500. get the  2500K instead. the 2500 is locked. i have the 2600K but build lots of rigs using the 2500K. it's a great proc.

As stated before the K version is the unlocked processor if you want to overclock although it's not really necessary to overclock the processor is fast enough heh.
