Siege

Town sieges - this is what i was missing most in WOM. Fighting from walls is much better then defence +% bonus.

I believe this is planned for the 2nd expansion (don't think they got it into E:FE, but they could surprise us)

Yeah, we really need to get some actual tactical battles. But Derek has said this won't go in because coding the AI would take a long time. That means it's likely that it'll happen at some point when Brad feels the AI for existing systems is decent, but probably not before the second expansion.

Already mentioned before. It was considerd for FE but was moved to the post release idee section. Derek said it will be considerd again for other expansions. And like Cruxador said, the main point was the AI, plus that non movable sqaures where hard to implement "good/nice". They didn't know if walls should give extra ranged defense or to block ranged completly. It was something in that line. Let's hope for schips and sieges for the next installment of Elemental! :D

Regardless of the reasons, it would be very fun to have. Sieges is probably on the top of my wish list currently. Shogun 2 had some amazing sieges, and even old classic Age of Wonders had really interesting and fun sieges.

I could very easily be wrong here but from a screenshot I saw awhile back I believe that when attacking cities combat will take place on dedicated tactical maps set outside of city walls, ie you can see the walls in the background.

I don't know why they don't have the maps feature some defensive terrain like some non-destructible walls and stat boosting fortification tiles to place archers or gate guardians on. It wouldn't require any new features but would add a lot more to combat then a blanket defense boost. A lot fun and depth could be added to sieges without having to have destructible tiles or line-of-sight. Maybe it could be modded in.

Even if it is just a map with a wall in the middle that can be destroyed. Sieges are alot of fun.

I'd point at the MoM sieges :)

Destructible walls. Put in a destructible gate that can be attacked by anything. Make it so that the walls cannot be attacked by anything but a spells or a unit with the "siege" characteristic.

This wall could go around a tactical map area, or just be in the middle, a-la Dominions. This wouldn't have to be a terribly sophisticated siege mechanic, just a way to make units in towns "safe" against normal fodder and monster. I'm picturing a few ranged units in a walled town easily fighting off any random gaggle of melee monsters/units, while "big" monsters (with the "siege" trait) and prepared armies pretty much roll over the town.

Yes, MOM and Age of Wonders...

Simple fix: Just pre-'fortify'(which is already a buff in the game) a line across. Easy cheezy lemon squeezy!

I second this. I enjoyed the MoM sieges.

I third this, sounds just about perfect. Maybe include a unit ability / spells that heal the walls and gates as well.
