WTF with locking topics?

Topics? I can see one locked thread which was undoubtedly taking a turn for the worst. Hardly a crisis

The debate from that locked thread will probably just move on to another thread.  (I'm not a big fan of thread locking and censureship.  Let people say what they want to say.)

I foresaw that thread going downhill fast, but didn't expect it to go in the direction it did...to be perfectly honest, that thread was very near to dying on it's own, and I highly doubt you would have seen much more activity in it even if it hadn't been locked...

I can understand why it was locked, but it seems a bit unnecessary in my mind...far worse things have gone on for much longer (not speaking to this forum, just forums in general) and aside from necro-ed threads I'm kind of against the whole locking thing...

Furthermore, Qu4r has a serious point, there is very little activity on these forums other than the mods section and to shut down an active thread certainly doesn't help in that regard...

Just another case of the screaming minority dictating for the majority. 

If 1 complaint can lock a thread would the same happen if we all messaged a moderator to keep it open every time we posted?

EDIT: Don't agree with the finger pointing without some proof though. Childish.

There so many other topics that deserve to be locked so i can only assume theres  rats in our forums who seem to have a relationship with the moderators so snitch and influence the locking of every topic they see fit without a valid or informed reason.

You know, curiosity more than anything makes me wonder if it actually was a complaint or if a moderator just saw the thread and made an executive decision...honestly, I don't know which alternative is worse....

There was a thread not too long ago that was locked...a necro-ed thread about the Sova Carrier...the last (or at least one of the last) posts was Darvin requesting the thread to be locked...whether him (or someone else) actually messaged a mod or whether a mod saw that post and acted on the request is anyone's guess...

i remember that sova post. I lost respect for this place the minute they acted on someones request.

I'd suspect that some peoples' persistent trolling has more to do with turning users off than locking a thread where someone was bragging about TOS-violating behavior (impersonating other users) that had generated multiple complaints does.
