Buying from a Romanian site

While searching for replacement parts for my Asus laptop, I stumbled onto this site [LINK]

I'm kinda worried about buying something online from a site where I can't read what's written there. I worry about credit card info theft/fraud. I have actually done some research online and have so far haven't found any evidence to support my fears. It seems to be a reputable site similar to Ebay.

They have the part I'm looking for [LINK] and at a fraction of the price compared to any other site that I've looked at. It's like a tenth of what I would pay for the same product in Norway!

You know the old saying: If it's too good to be true........

Advice anyone?

I can't find anything wrong with the site ... but if you have a problem with the order will you be able to fix it?

I would play it safe, when in doubt ...

In reality...head for head there will be MORE shonky people/sites/deals in the US than in Romania...simply because there are more people.

With that in mind...you should exercise EXACTLY the same caution buying online as you would do ANYWHERE online.

If it's about language barriers there's quite probably members here who can help....;)

A puzzler! I think you'll end up with 3 classes of response: Yes, no, and who knows? And a "Be careful, though" after each.

Actually, the site does have a good rep. Romanians are very demanding customers (and not very trusting), it seems. I would take advantage of the onsite email and ask for an actual picture of what you're buying. If you're using Chrome, it'll translate the site into English (or Norwegian, I think).

The condition is specified as "Good"... (whatever that means - I didn't see a 'standards guide' although there might be one). It's a device that would have seen a good deal of use... so a picture would help the 'trust" issue a good deal, Tim.

Mult noroc!

Thanks, Guys. Perhaps someone who has had dealings with them may come along and give some input.

The product page does actually include 3 images of the part.

It's exactly the part I need and everywhere else I've looked the touchpad isn't included.

I saw that, Tim. The logo made me think that's what the "Catalog" (brand new) pic is as opposed to the one you're thinking of buying... I meant to try to get a pic of what the actual item for sale looks like since if it were brand new, wouldn't it say "New" instead of "Good"?  Maybe not...  :S

Anyhoot... good luck with it! (There was only one for sale, that made me think it was a "second hand" item...)

edit:

good luck with Tim. I couldn't find any reviews of the site. If you decide to buy it would be nice to be able to do a wire transfer or use paypal.

According to their site rules, you can check the reputation of the seeler, just like Ebay. here's the translation for you :

The Purpose Of

Qualifiers are potential buyers of tools dedicated to Okazii ... to take informed decisions with respect to the transactions they want to carry out. Before you buy a product, users can check the reputation of a seller by the number of ratings received, resulting from the transactions.

What is a qualifying?

The qualifier is the unit of measure for the success of a transaction online at Okazii.

The rating is given at the end of a transaction by the two sides of the transaction.

General rating is listed by Okazii. en: any positive rate leads to an increase in our overall with a point, any negative rating decreases the qualifier with a point. Neutral does not affect the rating grades.

If an object that has already been withdrawn from the bid at an auction, and it is included in the minimum bid, the seller's rating decreases automatically with a point.

Only the seller and the winner (one for a normal or more if instant sale) may be granted for a qualifying transaction completed. These ratings will influence the rating of the counterparty. The qualifier is the number that appears in brackets () next to the name of the user.

It is forbidden any action undermining the integrity of the ratings system. According to the terms and conditions Okazii, if a user accumulates a general qualifier 3-(minus 3), his account will be permanently suspended and will not be able to buy or sell.

Also, according to the terms and conditions Okazii, if a user will receive 3 negative ratings in the position of the purchaser from the 3 salespeople in a period of 30 days, your account will be suspended altogether because it does not follow the rules of the Okazii. The user in question will no longer be able to list, buy or participate in the auction of that time.

Go for it. These people are selling parts allover the world. A bad reputation = Less or no sales. Use Paypal or a money order (slow but safe) if security is an issue.

I just replaced a Acer laptop KB and the brand new part was shipped all the way from China from a site I found on the web with no trouble. As for condition, even if used it will be in like new condition most of the time, especially on newer equipment.. Nothing wrong with recycling high-tech parts, good for the planet and all that. Saving big $$$ is a bonus.

I  worry more about the condition things are in after UPS gets done with it.

I would too if they treat their packages like one guy from FedEx did. It was a large LCD TV. The guy just tossed it over the fence into the front yard of the house he was delivering to. Needless to say he's no longer employed.

The way parcel delivery companies handle consumer goods is unreal. I read an article not so long ago about a guy that was selling a nintentable (table adapted from NES parts) and basically he packaged it into a wooden crate and his customer had received this crate smashed into smitherines. Also from FedEx. Just shocking the shabby treatment consumers receive considering the amount we have to pay for parcels to be delivered.

Seems to be a moot point at this time. I am unable to create an account on the site....apparently my phone number is invalid :P

If you want to wait until Friday I can get my friend Lucy to translate it for you.

Thanks, M.

Google translate got me through the steps for creating my account. It's just the the last step in the activation was supposed to be through sending me an SMS. Problem is, It won't accept my tlf no. It seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

I have found the same part on a Swedish site (not as cheep, but guaranteed new/unused) I think I'll order from them.
