How do I move my music library from C to another HD?

Looking for help with moving my music library from the C drive to another HD and still have Windows Media Player see it.  I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I've looked on the internet and what I found was old information and talks about a bug in Windows 7.

I'm basically looking for someone that has done it recently that can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Right click the MY Music folder in Windows Explorer, click on properties, click the location tab at the top and change it to where you want it to be. That is how I did mine and it worked fine. :meow: Works for any of the personal system folders, did My documents, My pictures, as well.

default directories can be moved or you can add other storage places by clicking organise in wmp then hit manage libraries

Thanks very much Frankief.  Basically very easy.  There was one more thing that I needed to do and thats what scorpNZ pointed out, needed to tell WMP where the to look for the music library.

Thank you both.  Now when I do backup of the C drive I'm only copying the stuff on the computer that I don't have a disk for.  :sun:

I'm lost I don't need to do this cause Have it done.

but I don't see no (location tab at the top) with or without Rick Clicking on the My Music or any other folder in Windows Explorer..

can you give a Screen Shot ? so I can see what I am miss.

side note:

this works good to Move and copy files, Folders, Etc. to other places

how to do it:

Open Note Pad copy this to (Move To) and/or this to (Copy to)

====================== <--- Don't Copy this

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To]
@="{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To]
@="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

========= STOP Don't Copy this

now click FILE > Save As  NOTE: It will try to save it as (*.txt) DON"T give it a NAME something like

Copy to Move to.reg   <<  Note it has to end with .reg

now go to where you saved it and Click on it NOW you will have

Copy to

and

Move to

in your right click Menu

so now all you have to do is right click on any Folder,file,ETC. and click on one or the other Copy to /// Move to

and Pick where you want it to be..

DC, all taken care of with very little effort and no need to mess with registry either.  :sun:

When you right click on My Music, click Properties and then you will see a tab for Location.

I think I will also move My Pictures, not taking up all that much space but it's stuff I don't need to be making backups of.
