Finding a reliable group of player?

Howdy folks,

So I have been trying most of today to get into some games. I just recently started playing again so I am pretty rusty.

Looking for a group of people to play against the AI untill I can get my feet under me. Problem is:

1) Can't find an open game

2) When I host a game people flake out

Is there a better way of finding people? I just want a group of people I can play with regularly and not hope to get some random person that's not gonna flake out :)

Suggestions?

Well if you have Steam I suggest getting togethor with Steam "buddies" and try getting into games with them. Us oldies here (ones way back before Steam) have a tendency to play 5v5 Single Huge Random Maps only.

It seems like the overwhelming majority of games that are open to the general public are for PvP and not against AI (which personally suits me just fine), and that most of the comp stomps are played amongst closed groups of friends.  So, if you really want to comp stomp what you might consider doing is (1) hosting your own comp stomp game with a title like "all welcome vs AI" or (2) joining game channels for private comp stomps and asking the people nicely if you can join them against the AI.

When you host a game people flake out?  How? (I'm curious who is flaking out and why here)

I've found that simply naming my hosted game, "Friendly Game" is enough to get lots of new players to join since Steam started.  I have had more fun with most Steam players than with the games I first played here when I started.

Also, if you make sure not to host a 3v3, 4v4 or 5v5 open game you'll rarely have the bitter old ICO trolls come in.  The Steam player far outnumber them now.

As a player who has to fight against trolls on a day-to-day basis on ICO i feel your frustration.  It is a real shame that some players come on for the sole purpose of making it hard for other people to play a game.  I think that the best way to combat trolls is to out troll the trolls.  Basically, hop online, make a name, pretend you're a "smurf" (vet pretending to be new) and then trash talk everyone in sight.  The more profanity you can pack into one sentence the better.  At this point, you've probably got everybody on ICO worked up and their panties are in a massive bunch.  The best way to handle this situation is now switch accounts to take some of the heat away from you, and then try to sneak into the lobby when everyone is looking for the smurf.  You are now incognito.

Hope this helps!
