Can you kill the spider separately from the champion?  Or do they share a hit point pool?

Yeah for diverse mounts!!!

Could that be a little HF influence creeping in?

In WoM mounts counted as equipment. While it would be nice if that had changed, Derek probably would have mentioned it when he was talking about combat stuff in general.

Being able to steal the equipment of the corpses would be nicer, although it would FUBAR the economy.

I'd like to see some mounts give an additional random attack, like a horse biting or trampling for 1 damage, or a spider biting for poison.

The fact that the entire economy of a city only produces enough to buy one sword and some armor etc. I think means that the economy is FUBAR to begin with...(how many turns does it take to make 30 gildar in WOM? lol) Equipment in general is overpriced in WOM when comparing it to the rest of the economy. Lets be honest here... costs for one piece of basic non magical equipment being more than it costs to produce buildings etc is just silly.

Maybe FE has a better sense of scale in this regard, if it does looting equipment wouldn't be an issue as it regards the economy. Looting a 3 gildar sword doesn't mean much if a building costs 500 gildar to build. But if its like WOM.. and a sword costs 10 gildar  and a building only costs 4...**

**its been awhile since I played WOM so I imagine those prices aren't exact but are in the general range.

Will Xia accept the arachnid mount as a suitable substitute for a 'little' pony?

Getting more Heavenfall influence into the game is a good thing, especially the mount modifications.  I thought the faction specific / diverse mounts and 0 level spell when you get a spellbook were the two best ideas from the mod community for WoM that I have not seen anything about in FE.

Of course I am waiting for the beta to eat a week or two of my life to offer proper feedback.  :-"

The spider is the champion. The man on the back is just to feed him kebabs.

Sir Arachnid of Webdale, at your service.

Yay for spider riders, this was one of the units I had been begging for back in the Alpha days of Elemental. Now all we need are giant scorpions/scorpion riders and my dreams will be complete.

Can we please get rid of all the damn spiders?

Giant scorpions would be very impractical as mounts. With other animals, you are pretty safe from their attacks should the become unruly. A scorpion could just stick you with it's stinger. But maybe being able to use their pincers and stinger in battle make up for the risks. Does anyone know, are scorpions especially strong, fast, or mobile for their size?

It depends on the species of scorpion. The smaller ones as a rule are more fast than the larger ones.(Emperor scorpions seem happy to plod along while the various bark scorpions are fast and nimble.) All scorpions are very strong for their size, along with being mobile. They are also more heavily armored than spiders. And take it from me, getting pinched by a large emperor scorpion is a lot worse than being stung by one. (Emperor scorps venom is very similar to a bees and the pain is a lot milder too) As a bonus some scorpions can even spray their venom up to three feet away and have accurate aim.

In EA's battle for middle earth II the goblin king had a scorpion mount, and it was a badass unit IMO.

Yes, any mount should be treated as equipment (that add movement, add hit point, or even some of the mounts' ability like.... flying?!)

Scorpions with big pincers, as a rule, are not nearly as dangerous as those with small ones. Small pincers means they use their venom to kill, big pincers means they use their pincers. As portraited by the Emperor Scorpion, who looks badass, but isnt deadly.

I'd be worried by this though O_o
