I can finally print, it’s a miracle

After 4 years, Canon has finally released drivers for their $40k Canon Image Press C1 printer line that will allow you to print a document from a program using the standard Windows settings rather than have to monkey with their cryptic driver utilities if you want to do something crazy (like print to the 11x17 paper in landscape). Hooray

Lol.  Finally freedom to the joys of hardware manufacturer's proprietary and horribly designed software.  Now make HP do the same.

Meanwhile, my Canon printer's drivers for Linux are still horrible (can't choose print quality, can't choose to print in greyscale, can't use two-sided printing etc.)...

Apparently some manufacturers are just notorious with their drivers. Creative comes to mind, with even Windows 7 sound card drivers being pretty ghastly.

So you bought a $40K printer?   o_O

In that case, I have some magic beans I would like to sell you.

For 40k, your Canon Image Press C1 printer should go to the bathroom for you so you can continue to work uninterrupted and get our programs completed. lol

I remember our first printer.  My father had to build a wooden box lined with Styrofoam to keep the noise level acceptable.  And he had to vacuum it out all the time because of the paper lint.  Mmmm . . green and white lined paper.  Good times.  Then we got the daisy wheel printer: perfect letters for the time . . so much better than the 9-pin it replaced . . but sooo slow.

My father measures the passage of time by what car he was driving  . . I measure mine by the tech I was using.  :)

I use a mobile phone (I got the mobile phone about the same time my two watches died).  However maybe I shouldn't given that they like spying on mobile phone stuff? :P

I can tell time by how intense the souls of my enemies wail in my sleep. When the dead faces won't let me sleep any more, then I know I've grown old.

Driver writers in the industry are horribly understaffed and underpaid  (gee...you think there might be a causal connection between the two?).   The problem is, if you're skilled at writing drivers, then you're probably also skilled at writing kernels, and kernel writing will earn you $180k a year.  Even a bad kernel guy will be better off doing that than writing drivers.
