Color Blind Blues

Why I can't play GalCiv2

I loved GalCiv and played it quite a bit.  I tried several times to play GalCiv2, but I never got very far.

Looking back (it's been a while since I tried it), I think the main reason was something very simple:  I cannot tell the yellow and green squares apart on the planet map.  It sounds like a little thing, but it made planet developing irritating--not fun at all.

So, is there a mod that changes the color of the squares so a red-green color blind person* can be tell them apart?

*for those not familiar with color blindness, I see color fine.  However, certain shades look the same, such as bright green and yellow.

None in existence, but I can easily make one. What color would you like>

That would be outstanding!  If you could make the yellow squares either blue or white.

I remember playing the original Red Alert solitaire once, and I was playing yellow since the color stood out so well.  I was playing along until the computer launched an attack on me with its own yellow forces.  I just laughed and started a new game--and chose another color.  Actually, either the computer or I was green, but I absolutely could not tell the difference.

I've had some wonderful people made minor mods in Sword of the Stars and the old, old Command HQ, which made a word of difference to my gaming experience in those games.

Thank you in advance...

I couldn't get the mod itself to work.  I think I set everything up correctly, but it was my first attempt to run a mod.

However, I simply copied the yellow and orange highlight files over to the regular directory.  (I renamed the original files just in case.)  That did the trick!

It's amazing how one subtle little change makes such a difference in game play.  Thanks again!

You're welcome!

In case anyone else wonders how to use the images in the mod to work without messing about with a mod folder, you can just drop the GFX folder of the mod in the Games\GC2TwilightArnor folder (for user's game data).  It'll find them there and load those images instead of the stock ones.
