Two very serious - one nearly game breaking bugs. - ALERT - Additional forum bug please check asap.

Bugged unit build and graphics.

Hello.

Guys I need some help with several things but let's start with the most serious.

I can't build single explorers or other units without using various bugs.
I have only to choose from Party and Squad (Party represented by the single unit icon and Squad by the 3 people icon).

This is in direct contrast to the manual in which you have several more options and in which clearly the single unit icon represents a single unit.

Edit: A short search shows that this is an intendend feature...Why? And why not at least change the icons then to avoid confusion?
Is this really also intended for units that use special, expensive packages clearly intended for single units?

The second bug is that I for some reason can only run the game using intel-integrated graphics and not in Full Screen.
I have a Nvidia card of good standard and it is updated.

Just a tip for you all who get the "input device" error or the ยค00000005 or is it #000000005 error:
Try to run it in using your secondary graphic card (if  you have one) and without Full Screen. Seen alot of posts about this that rarely get resolved so I doubt I'll get much help here neither. But it would be nice to run it on the main  card...

An other serious shortfall seems to be the chat system. Not really a bug but how do I list channels? And damnit, why is it so empty?  Nobody plays this game online, fine. But why is even the main stardocks chat empty? Guys common...

Last I heard the multi player/on line system wasn't very good/worked at all so I've never tried it.

I would recommend at this point just to play against the AI and wait for Fallen Enchantress to come out in the semi-near future.  Yes the unit building qty selection is a little broken and it is nearly impossible to build a group of fully equipped units in late game.

Cheers,

Thanks for answering. It really feels as if I've bought an alpha build. Is it really meant to be that I can't build single units even for future designs of pioneers.
The only way seems to be to never delete the pioneer class cause switching to him creates a single unit and then you can pick single for others to.

Why is the single Unit icon =  Party?

Why does the AI on challenging level not pick up abandoned villages and mines?

Why have you guys totally sold us a game that's not finished?

From what i understand I won't even get Fallen Enchantress for free since Ib ought the game this year.
And you guys want to make a gamers bill of rights?
In it I suggested some things for a better future but you guys haven't even delivered a finished commercial product here.

It has so freakin much potential...

Is there ANY way that I can edit into the game "single units"?  I think I read that this was possible.

Is there ANY way to get the AI to pick up abandoned villages?

To add in single units again, go to your installation folder and open data/English/CoreUnitGroupingTypes.xml.

Replace

  <UnitGroupingType InternalName="UnitGroupingType_Single">
    <DisplayName>Individual</DisplayName>
    <TroopCount>1</TroopCount>

    <BaseTurnsToTrain>3</BaseTurnsToTrain>
    <WageMultiplier>1.0</WageMultiplier>
    <IconFile>Individual.png</IconFile>
    <Prereq>
      <Type>Tech</Type>
      <Target>Player</Target>
      <Attribute>invalid</Attribute>
      <Value>0</Value>
    </Prereq>
    <PewterStandModel>Gfx//HKB//Stands//Stand_Circle_01.hkb</PewterStandModel>
  </UnitGroupingType>

with

<UnitGroupingType InternalName="UnitGroupingType_Single">
    <DisplayName>Individual</DisplayName>
    <TroopCount>1</TroopCount>

    <BaseTurnsToTrain>3</BaseTurnsToTrain>
    <WageMultiplier>1.0</WageMultiplier>
    <IconFile>Individual.png</IconFile>
    <PewterStandModel>Gfx//HKB//Stands//Stand_Circle_01.hkb</PewterStandModel>
  </UnitGroupingType>

Then restart E:wom and start a new game

PS. They were removed on purpose, it is not a bug that you can't build singular units.

Alright, thanks. I couldn't really know since it's not written anywhere clearly and since the Icon still says Single unit.

Also the AI is building single units all thetime.
Overall the things I'most impressed  with this game are the effecient way the AI constructs its cities and the general breath of fresh air that the game is in  terms of its many innovative features and graphics.

But it all fails short in practtise.  Take for example the combat system which has great potential in terms of the many spells and units you can choose from.
In  reality though when fighting AI picks its main target ahead and if you keep moving it and have ranged targets attacking you will always survive.

The many differences in skill and practical gameplay between the AI and the human player is why I very much would want to play this game online but there's nobody out there willing to do this it seems. I don't understand why it's so bad online.

While still a bit buggy and missing things this game would probably be far better online than offline.
Both AI and human player would pick abandoned villages and mines, solve quests, fight intellegently on the battlefield and scout efficiently.
At the same time most of us would probably build and plan slightly less efficiently.

Can someone explain to me why playing online doesn't work very well? Is there a turnbased system or a simultaneous turn system?

Sorry what I meant was that both human players not both AI and human player

the online game does NOT have tactical battles and also other changes that decrease the interest in the online version of the game. if stardock had made the online version the same as the offline version then it could be a lot more online play happening, but they did not, so the current situation.

Why the hell doesn't it have the tactical battle? To be honest it's completely unfair to the current AI but in multiplayer it would've been pretty good.

I don't get it?

frogboy does not like online play so he ordered the removal of it before it left stardock., at least that is what I remember him posting  back in the beta time.

I think there was a technical issue that compounded the problem. I find AI tactics reasonable for the genre and the features in this game. Any talk of WoM is beginning to feel like trolling as we approach the beta.  :zzz:

with the main question being

WHENwill e:fe be released to  beta testers?

and will it actually be playable and enjoyable?

harpo

FE will be terrible and give you a disease. You should give up hope now.  :)

Reply #13 Top

frogboy, it looks like the 'disease' might be 'Leptodactylititus', pity you already caught it.

Meh. I'll use this threat to ask:

Does anyone know if its possible to have more than 6 troops per battle in WoM 1.4? Logistics doesnt seem to do it.

achul, you need to copy the elementaldefs.xml into your mods folder(or any other folder in your \my games\elemental\ folders and edit it in the  folder, I am currently using 18 as the army size limit about line 131 you will see similar to

'        <!-- ** Army Restrictions ** -->
        <MaxArmySize>18</MaxArmySize>
        <HomeTerritoryAttackScalar>1.10</HomeTerritoryAttackScalar>
        <HomeTerritoryDefenseScalar>1.10</HomeTerritoryDefenseScalar>
        <ForeignTerritoryAttackScalar>0.90</ForeignTerritoryAttackScalar>
        <ForeignTerritoryDefenseScalar>0.90</ForeignTerritoryDefenseScalar>
'
the 18 is 6 in a standard elementaldefs.xml.

Does the AI make larger armies too?

Reply #17 Top

yes, I have fought against armies(both monsters and ruffians AND the other races) of 15-17 units fairly frequently in the current game.
