And steam is more trustworthy? that's ironic.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
I did look at both catalog's. I am not into mass-gaming so there's a bigger choice of the games i do buy on Impulse. Where are Armada 2526 Supernova, Starpoint Gemini, Praetorians, Scourge of War, Hegemony Gold, Caesar IV etc on Steam? There's not point for me to change to Steam because they don't offer the games i want...no added value, on the contrary. Gamersgate and Matrix Games complete my needs for digital distribution.
Impulse is still the fastest...
I am not saying i won't install Steam at one point (actually i already own a couple of game which require it but haven't installed yet). I find funny to see people claiming that Steam is sooo great and at the same time they hate Gamestop...ironic.
That you want some pretty obscure games that they don't carry doesn't mean the catalog is better, because it's really not. There's a lot more stuff on Steam and not Gamestop (or stuff that is on Gamestop but requires Steam to work - hello Skyrim!) then vice-versa.
And yeah, I hate Gamestop. I can only take being jerked around by one company so many times before I decide to take my business elsewhere, and that is a horrible company. When the console makers kill the used game pawnshop market and bankrupcy comes for them, I won't shed any tears.
I do not want a program that does more than gamestop ... in fact I want a program that does less! (to some degree)
It gives me a centralized update location, lets me know if updates are available, lets me re-download my games, tells me if my version is un-corrupted per the latest revision ... and that's about it. I use xFire for joining BF2 games with my friends and vice versa. I save locally and with all due respect ... if you are installing Windows that many times, then you are doing things that put your computer at risk (or are experimenting with settings etc) in which case you should backup your data before you attempt any of those in the first place.
*shrugs* Just my opinion I guess. If I want to buy something, I don't want all the extra frills outside of what I want. Simple.
Why would I want an external program like xFire to do what Steam can already do from inside the game? You've wound up in the same place only with two programs to do it. As for saving locally... well when I go somewhere, I don't bring my desktop with me. As soon as I want to pick up a save game at another location one of these solutions is vastly superior then the other, and it's not like local saves go away. All they did was add an extra option for those who want to use it.
It's kind of weak that the arguments around here have fallen down to "Steam does more stuff, and that's a bad thing!"
