Please put ships back in!

Is there any chance we will get ships back into the game? I don't care if they were poorly implemented to begin with - they were hands-down, one of my favorite parts of the game. They don't have to be improved or re-coded, I would just like to see them in the game so we can sail across the ocean again.

In one of the early versions of WOM (on an Elementerra map), I remember sending my hero's wife with a settler and compliment of soldiers to explore the ocean and finding a lost island full of drakes and other monsters. It was so much fun strugggling to establish a colony there with monsters all around. It reminded me of King Kong.

Please Frogboy! Give us back ships in Elemental! So much flavor and character was sucked out of the game when it was removed.

Ships will take a lot of effort to do right, as they'll require another layer of AI, and some expansion.

I do want to see it, but I'm willing to wait for the 2nd expansion.

I agree Alstein we don't need resources thrown at a dead horse. Improve the AI first and always. ;)

I agree with the sentiment to hold off on ships until the land/magic AI is well honed.   I love naval games - but prefer SD's resources be spent in getting a kick-ass Ai up and running.  Players have added (modded) some item in WOM, and I am sure thge same will happen in FE.

I am still clinging to the idea that boats were never invented because magic rendered any such thought useless. Same thing happened with toasters.  :)

Toasters?   You mean there are  **gasp**  no toasters in FE?  What will I do?  Oh, I could fireball that pitchfork and, assuming the pitchfork survives, toast the bread on the hot pitchfork?

Boats would be nice to have even if they are not done 100% well.  I understand that boat AI is difficult, I have seen this played out on a number of TBS games, but having the option for the player would at least be something. The only map I like for this game is the Destiny's Embers one, and it has two continents and an island...

Actually I was referring to the spell, Conjure Toast. They never should have made it a level one spell.

I'm trying to read that spam jarble, not going to the site of course, but does it say in there "San Jose Asian Escorts"?  and how come we got San Jose and the other topic he spammed got "New York"?  Shit, I live in Kansas, how about some Kansas City Asian Escorts?

I believe that inclusion of a necessary water element puts Frogboy between a rock and a hard place. In order for the AI to use them, it will be necessary to metagame and that is something that Frogboy has intimated that he would like to avoid. Boats were removed from EWoM not because the players coudn't take advantage of them, but because the AI didn't know what to make of them. With boats there is no clear set of goals to pursue. Metagaming would solve this. Ultimately, a sea component will be necessary for the game to be all it should be. Somewhere down the line, the devs are going to have to bite the bullet and just do it.

You don't absolutely need a metagame AI to have boats. CivV style boats are acceptable for the situation and would be alot easier to implement. Magic is also a great way to travel by sea.

I kind of like the idea, for AI purposes, to have land units create their own transports (ala from Civ 5 from what I've heard). With that said, if the AI can be taught to do proper naval warfare, then allow the AI and players create warships which would allow some sea combat. As I see it, the mechanic of a land unit walking into a sea tile and creating a transport eliminates the needless micro of loading ships. It also allows the AI to consider all map squares for movement. On the other hand, the AI would need to be smart enough to make warships and patrol the seas. Have no idea how hard either would be to code but makes sense to me as a player.
