BigDogBigFeet  notified me of the following offer:

I started to check up on it and because of URL’s, etc. I thought there might be some phishing going on, or perhaps worse.

 

 

 

I checked out the website:   http://www.microsofthup.com/hupus/home.aspx?culture=en-US .  I checked up on it on MS’s real website. No trace of any such offer.

So I called Digital River, and they directed me to Customer Service at MS to a really  nice lady named Shirley who redirected me to Kim, who confirmed the offer…..

BUT:  You have to be actively working for a company participating in this program.   Otherwise, that’s too bad. You won’t qualify. Tough luck, Doc.

 

So, thanks, BDBF….  It’s kosher. Might well be worth your while to check if your employer is participating, folks.

It's a great deal if your org participates, but you can only get one license with it so if you want to use office on both your home PC and your mobile computer, you'll have to find another bargain somewhere.

I'm curious about whether your org needs to be an enterprise customer (large numbers through Volume Licensing) to participate. We have HUP at the college where I teach, and Office is on thousands of PCs across several campuses.

Hmm, I have this and unless they changed their policy I thought it was valid on up to three PCs in your home.

My company participates and I purchased Office 2007 and 2010 that way.  For a while I had 2007 on my desktop and 2010 on my laptop but now both are running the same license of 2010 and update without problems.  It may be because I had 2 licenses, just for different versions, or that MS doesn't care in these cases.  The entire program is premised on the idae they can get people to pay $10 who might otherwise have simply taken a work company home.  I was using Open Office myself but jumped at the chance for this bargain.

Interesting. My 'bosses' said it is just one license for us, but info about IT is often sketchy on campus. Guess I need to investigate...

Had a Technet subscription. When it ended, so did my copy of Office 2010. I decided that although there are many other benefits to the subscription, all I was doing was an expensive rental...

$10 bucks is a drop in the hat really for a non-expiring license. Really there is no reason not to get office if this program is available to you.

@Zombie, I believe that is what MS is thinking.  10 million people buying = 100 million they would not have otherswise had and it's by download so it doesn't even cost them media.  If you do want the DVD you have to pay 10 or 15 extra.

As long as you still have the install files, the keys are still good. The keys you generated do not expire at the end of your subscription.

You can still look up your keys under your log in if you need to, the only restriction is you are unable to download the install files.

This is from MS, they do not black list your keys.

Yes...was gonna mention that.  I missed my renewal email so my sub expired...though the various proggies were all still just fine.

Only annoying thing was I'd fully intended to keep the sub current... but as it had lapsed I was up for a full new sub instead of the cheaper 'update/renewal'.

Next time I'll try not to lose the email...;)

Thanks, guys... I appreciate the help. I've been using Open Office... pretty much the same for my simple needs. Wouldn't know where to begin looking for the derned keys, anyway.

Yeah, I'm seriously thinking about joining up also.  I recall that I had some earlier reservations about the legality and, etc, being just a home user, but thankfully you [and others at the time] cleared that up for me.  With a bit of luck MS will have listened by then and Win 8 will be a better proposition than it is now.
