Pacifist Victory

So, last night I won my first game on tough difficulty after several losing games.

And this is my first game which I have won without destroying a single ship at all, i.e a pacifist victory.

I was wondering, did anyone else win without destroying a single ship?

That's my favorite sort of victory. I've done it going for the tech win, the influence win, and I think I pulled it off at least once while going for an alliance win. That last is tricky on account of AIs sometimes having suicidal tendencies and attacking my fleets just because they stupidly declared war on one of my allies.

Yes, I've done it a few times.  More often than not, though, when I've flipped an evil civilization's last planet and their ships turn pirate, I have to destroy the pirates.

I also did Influence or ally or tech victories with no shots fired. A different kind of fun than conquering but still feels good. Conquering gets messy toward the end. The pacifist way is much easier toward the end as the turns whiz by.

I enjoy the cultural/influence victory the most. There's nothing quite like the feeling you get from seeing your opponents (and their worlds) succumb one by one to your gentle (cough) form of persuasion, but make sure you have a powerful navy in reserve (even if it's never used) just as a deterrent... the SCC is your friend.

I find this sort of victory plays out best on gigantic and immense maps.
