Can't update from Impulse

I am trying to update from 1.3 to 1.4 to give E:WoM one more chance. It won't update, won't download. I went to the impulse forums and they're saying it's Stardocks servers that are the problem, they think. They don't seem to be sure.

So. Can you guys maybe check and see if your servers are up, since apparently Impulse has no idea?

Pathetically frustrating.

Impulse is totally separate from Stardock's servers and has been for some time. The user you spoke to on the Impulse forums seems to have been confused.

If you're having issues with Impulse, please contact their support department directly at [email protected], they should be able to investigate and resolve the issue.

Can't wait until I can uninstall Impulse.

kryo, i'm aware youre separate, but they said that impulse was fine and i couldnt update because your servers must be down. thats why i asked here to see if you knew if your update servers were OK.

also, that's not the email for support anymore its some gamestop email address. they have not responded.

Additionally, get off impulse as soon as you guys can, please. sooner. its terrible.

And here's why - seems impulse can't find your servers.

And here's why - seems impulse can't find your servers.

The "Stardock.Central.Common" in the stack trace is just the namespace of the method in the Impulse source code and has nothing to do with what servers it is failing to contact (which are Gamestop's and/or their CDN's).

The user you spoke to on the Impulse forums appears to have erroneously been left with volunteer moderator privileges after the transfer and is not a Gamestop representative to my knowledge. Please disregard the comments he made and allow Gamestop/Impulse support to investigate this issue.

They're telling me to download this and run it and send them the info:

http://sd.stardock.com/SDSupportTool.exe

Um. What.  I thought they weren't Stardock anymore? And you just told me its not your servers?

None of this makes any sense. :/ Just run a file that gathers info about my computer and send it back to them?

I barely trust stardock anymore, but I trust you guys more than I'd trust Gamestop. Is this safe for me to run and send them, and will it help them fix my problem?

It's a tool we built for troubleshooting prior to the Impulse split. At least some of the Impulse support people are former Stardock support, so they're probably just used to using it (it still works just fine, so no harm in that).

Nothing has worked. Is there any way to update Elemental without Impulse? GS support is pretty useless. after gathering all my info, they blamed bitdefender, or something. they recommended windows security essentials.

sadly, ive never even used or installed bitdefender, and have only used win security essentials. i've completely reset my router to stock settings. ive turned off all firewalling and malware protection. still the same errors.

There is currently no other means available to get updates, sorry. If their suggestions have not helped, please calmly point that out to them and work with them further. We don't have control over Impulse any more to be able to diagnose such issues ourselves.

Something is coming before or at the time of the FE beta, which is scheduled for around Thanksgiving.

The Impulse servers are horrible right now, I tried re-DLing GC2 at work, it took 12 hours, and this was in the middle of the night so it wasn't server overload.

Stardock needs to diversify themselves from this sinking ship, and while I wouldn't buy a SD game on Steam if they offered a direct option, their games do need to be on Steam.

Yeah, impulse has gone to fucking shit after the takeover. Not only did they add forced ads, now they actually load ads before they load the client. Their priorities are clear. I always appreciated Stardock's approach to it, which mostly was that it was a content delivery system. Now Gamestop sees it as a way to sell advertising space.

Forced ads... I can think of nothing more unwanted on my computer. It is embarrassing.

I am also disgusted with gamepulse. I REALLY can't wait until I can get this crap off my computer. I never really liked Impulse too much, but I did appreciate that you could turn off ads, and really liked that it doesnt need to run to play a game. I wonder how long it will take them at Gamestop to change that behaviour as well. Impulse has always been really slow with updates (not to be confused with d/l speed which has been dropping like a rock since the transition), but I put up with it because it was SD's and it wasn't overly intrusive.

The Elemental support forums aren't really the place for debating Impulse's management, guys. If you have feedback for Impulse, please direct it to Gamestop.
