STOLEN

Just when I was getting close

Between 5:35 and 6:00 last night my laptop was stolen. Now...I've never been one to bitch about anything but this tears it. I get up to use the bathroom, five minutes and I come back and its gone! Everything I had was on my laptop, everything! A book I worked on for the last six years and was close to the final revision, gone! All the graphics I was given to build the smx for vStyler's Master WB's gone! Every damn thing I had is gone. Bad enough I have to struggle every damn day just to get a freakin' cup of coffee or something to eat and now I got to deal with this!?!? BULLSHIT!!

Bad enough I haven't got a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of and now this. Bad enough I got to deal with being homeless and stuck in this godawful fuckin' town. Now I got nothing...zip, zero zilch nada not a damn thing left! I am so sick and fuckin' disgusted with this shit. I mean...I don't steal, cheat or lie my way through life like so many of these other assholes do. I don't do drugs, I don't drink. What put me here was a couple of injuries that prevent me from doing manual labor but that's all there is. Sitting down is not an option because my legs swell up and I have to keep them elevated. Standing for long periods of time is also not an option as it kills my back. Do I qualify for assistance...no. Why...because according to welfare I'm still capable of working. Working at what? I'm damn near 60 years old. Who the hell is gonna hire an old fart like me? Too old for most jobs. Nobody wants a self taught computer tech because I have no certification, like I need a piece of paper to tell me I know how to do stuff. Just letting you know I'm out of it again and this time I doubt if I'll be able to get back and if I do it won't be for quite some time. The last time I got lucky, an acquaintance that doesn't know me from Adam gave me, not lent me but gave me the 180 dollars to buy a used laptop. She didn't even want me to pay her back. When I tell her this she's gonna freak! there is no way in hell I'm going to ask her or even hint at it. So...vStyler., I'm sorry but I won't be able to finish the skins. Its been fun guys. I can't say when I'll be able to get back here. My bitchin' for the day.

I'm really terribly sorry to hear that, Uvah... may the thief meet up with starkers.

BUT: Think! Do you have credit/debit/financial, Social Security Number... etc. on the lap top?

If you do:

Credit card stolen: http://www.scambusters.org/creditcard.html

Identity stolen:  http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/idtheft/idt07.shtm

Wallet stolen (in a sense...):  http://www.identitytheftlabs.com/stolen-wallet-purse/

And may the SOB rot. Also... ask the door attendant if anyone left at the same time. Ask if there are surveillance cameras.

Also, maybe you have a record of the serial number? Where were you when it happened? Get to the police pronto with some helpful info.

That really sucks, Uvah. I hope the rat that stole it gets run over by a burning WalMart truck.

Damn! Are you living in a shelter Uvah? That is really low of someone! >:(

I really hope things get better for you soon too. Damned welfare system, the people that scam and abuse it get all the money, and those that truly need it get refused, sad indeed!

Sorry to hear about that Uvah!!

It sure does suck when someone brakes into your home and stills your stuff.

Way back in 1997 I just got a 32” Sony TV flat picture (tube) with P-in-P

2 or 3 weeks later I went on a road trip to Branson Missouri for just 4 days.

Come back to No TV and VCR. Made the police report.

2 days later the next door boy about 6 or 7-years-old asked me. “Way are you mad at my Mommy, is because she cut your cable code?” so, I went to the police to tell them. They told me that, that is not proof they stolen your TV & VCR.

I told the cops that it was proof, how else, would he have known that the cable cord was cut. Other than the fact he was in my home with his mother while she was stilling.  Then the cop said that they could not use a child’s statement..

So I went back home. Very pissed off... Gave them (the neighbor’s)  a piece of my mind 3 days later in the middle of the night they moved out… yes I put the fear of god in them.. Yes I can be a prick when I have to… the cops would not handle it so I did..

Then in 1999 someone(s) broke into my home again and stole a lot and ransacked the place

The list then was very long. So I called the police they got their and asked me a VERY dumb question does your place all ways look like this. Hell no I don’t sit on the BOTTUM of my couch..

So right then I knew it was time to move out of Low-Life-Ville... Those assholes even dumped my Dad’s ashes...

So I went to North of North Kansas City.. Still in Kansas City just a different county.. Lived there for 5+ years

Now I leave in Lenexa Kansas where the low-life’s Don’t life...  Not saying the last place was bad. Just the one before it...

damn Uvah, that's downright bogus. if you can please keep us updated, things could be in the works?

Please note uvah has to have a laptop. I know his situation and a desktop won't be of any use to him. If I had one I would give it to him but don't. Also if anything goes on keep me poster. I won't mind helping.

If someone can't give Uvah a laptop, I am more than happy to help to get him one ...

I really hope I don't say something stupid - would the person who stole it likely be just going to try and flog it on the street? Maybe a sign in the soup-kitchens or shelter notice boards or whatever they might have could guilt them into returning it? Can a friend check local pawn shops?

This sounds like a worst nightmare for me, we have so much of our lives in our computers. I'm horrified most of all to hear about your book, please please know that even if it is gone the person who wrote it isn't and is worth the most.

Uvah ...that just stinks.

I've just jumped all the hoops you need to when someone in Canada [the other side of the world] is using your credit card.

If there's anything I can do to help....let me know via PM,

Cheers,

Paul.

Im so sorry about it .... was just a couple of days back when my cellfone got stollen and I can very well understand what you're going through rite now, but try to accept that fact now and move ahead in life ..... surely gonna miss you and your work ... :'( by the time you return back here.

That blows! I'm so sorry. I know it's been suggested but you should really check out the local pawn shops. Thats where thieves go first and as important as the laptop is, it's the info you'll miss the most. I hope things work out. I wish I could help but I'm close to the same position as you. I'll keep an eye on this thread and if there's anything I can do, I will.

Josh.

Hey old mate, I'm really sorry to read of your misfortune(s)  It's not bad enough that you're homeless and have nowhere to hang your hat, but for some low life POS to steal your lappy is truly a low act.  As others have suggested, try the local [and not so local] pawn shops.  Also put up notices in the vicinity and see if that produces a result... eg: somebody dobs the thief in.

I would suggest going to the cops, but they're as useless as tits on a bull when it comes to things like this.  However, in the event there is a dispute over ownership later on [eg: the thief sold it and the purchaser is disputing your entitlement], go to the cops, report it stolen now and give them something that later identifies the unit as being yours.

I really hope that it is returned to you intact, with all your data and skins, etc.

wow.  Really sorry about this uvah.  Been there 2.  I've spent a total of 7 years being homeless on 3 separate occasions.  It sucked and it is almost impossible to climb back out.

But it can be done.  Sometimes if you can clam yourself and look at this as a call for you to work the system and keep knocking on doors and eventually you can get yourself re-established.

I have an entry level job with no health or retirement benefits and it will end soon.  But for right now I'm not homeless and I'm working towards getting that permenant hire.  Keep working at it, it is the only way to obtain results.

Sorry to hear this Uvah.

Skarney makes a good point...if you can, check the pawn shops close to you.

If you find it, call the police and they will get it back for you.

hope you find the punk..

Uvah I am sorry to hear about your loss but no need to be out of it again. PM coming your way and I hope you will be able to read it soon.

While this is a bit off topic it is still quite relevant.....

In a country with the wealth and resources of the US of A, I find it totally ridiculous... even criminal that anyone is homeless... on the streets, living in shelters, etc.... and if Uvah had a place to hang his hat/plug in his lappy would likely not have neen stolen.

So, while recovering/replacing his laptop is important, I'm hoping somebody much closer to Uvah than I can help him find safer and more suitable accommodation.  It doesn't have to be palatial or mansionesque, just something modest with power, a hat hook and a window for some fresh air [if there is such a thing the big city].  Surely somebody knows of something that would suffice... an old abandoned warehouse or office complex perhaps.... anything with bathroom amenities that could easily be adapted to affordable housing.

Sometimes a bit of a leg up is all a person needs, and they can do the rest.  Anybody????

And Uvah, be prepared to go outer suburban even rural... a roof over your head is a roof over your head, no matter where it is [excluding prison/hospital/living with a banker]

Sadly, homelessness is something that's also on the rise here in Australia, and with the unending greed of the banks and now daily foreclosures, real estate agents fees making housing unaffordable, it is a travesty that's getting worse by the day,  Again, there is no need for it.  There are several thousands of vacant houses here in Ipswich alone, yet it is reported that upwards of 27,000 people are homeless in the area   Why is that?  Because banks, real estates and investment owners would rather see them empty and claim on tax than go below the market rental value.

The problem is that the people with all the wealth and resources just don't give a damn. Most of them could care less about the homeless, or anyone else for that matter. :(

I hope he does, so that he can see, that with all that is bad in the world, there are good people here.

Same here in Oz, the wealthy have absolutely NO regard for the impoverished and/or disadvantaged. There are wealthy pretenders who supposedly care and give to charity, but the truth is that they write it all off on tax... meaning they've donated nothing at the end of the day and the average taxpayer [read low income earner] foots the bill.

After seeing first-hand just how tight these bastards are when I was collecting for charity during that 'Feed The World" campaign, I have absolutely no time for rich people whatsoever.  My partner of the time and I were given a rather well-to-do area on the first day of the collection weekend, and a working class area the next.  In total we collected just $4.00 from the well-to-do area, an estate of about 700 houses, while the next day we collected nearly $570 from the working class folk who had the least to give.... and from far fewer houses to boot [about 300].

To say I hate regular rich folk, um, probably not.... but I sure as heck dislike the mongrels with a passion.  One of rich folk [though I can think of another 4 lettered word beginning with F] actually threatened us with violence if we didn't get off his property instantly, then release 2 doberman pincers when he thought we weren't moving fast enough for his liking.  We got the last laugh, though... when his house burned to the ground about a month later and took his collection of luxury cars with it.  Yup, you guessed it, he came knocking on our door for assistance... which was impolitely refused [add a plethora of expletives and a threat or two here], and for good measure, my rottweiler was set loose to put the fear of bejesus into him.

However, and for anyone who is unaware at this point, I do hate bankers.... with a passion. }:)

Well, having been there, I can say this much.

My time on the bottom was a very dark time in my life. I was in a situation where my spirit was broken. I was as low as one could get, and I ceased to care.

I lost a wife and two kids and my dignity and pride. I spent 3 years homeless. Eating in missions, standing in soup lines, sleeping where I could, bumming food from fast food joints, etc.

Walking store parking lots looking for lost money, getting cigarette butts from people's ashtrays.

My own family wouldn't help. I stank, I was thin and sickly. I attempted suicide several times, and contemplated it daily.

I have had to fight my way back to where I am now. I give thanks to The Lord for that, and for seeing me back to "this side".

I say all this for one reason. I feel you Ross. I believe you are a good guy and I believe that you will see better times. I will be praying for you, Ross, and I will be vigilant about it.

With God's help, I came back from a bad place in my life. You will too, I have faith in you. Keep your chin up. Email me when you can, I'd like to call you on the phone, if that would in any way be possible.
