The Fellowship of the [Artifact] And You

We all know how effective a group of 5 random heroes can be. Either against a single all powerful wizard or scores of orcs, heroes can be exceedingly resourceful, often pulling victory out the jaws of defeat. The key to adding this common fantasy element to Elemental is keeping things small. Massive civilizations tend to obscure the true heroes in favor of the masses. Heroes want to be appreciated. They want a small hometown to fight for. If adventure is your focus, you may want to consider building The Hall of Heroes. It will make your quaint kingdom a hot spot for the champions of the realm. The Watchers and Mystics will surely lead every warrior with that special something to your small and virtuous villages. The gods of fate will lead many a champion to defend your castles and embark on quests in the name of your kingdom or empire. You will not be able to build such great cities as some of your massive neighbors, but what you do have will be full of meaning and wonder. The bounties you reap from adventuring will give you the leading edge of technology and magic. Your heroes will be famous to your allies and infamous to your foes. Sure you will have to focus on defense, affording only a score of valiant heroes to traverse the dangers of Anthys, but a brave and heroic Sovereign such as you can find a way to unite all the realm with so small an army.

That is, until you have enough magical artifacts to become a Titan and destroy all that oppose you...

This will hopefully be the best choice for a human player, whereas the other four And You mods will be easier for the AI to use. I just don't think even Frogboy's AI can be good enough to handle a hero only kingdom. I may have to eat these words though.

FANTASTIC idea, this will give the Adventure tree some serious meaning!  A lot of people will probably want to simply go all Heroes and do the multitude of quests in this game.

I can already see I will have to eat those words. But right now the beta AI is getting wasted due to lack of wins against monsters. They just don't level well.

Now that I have an idea of the hero system, I plan to make some really nice artifact curses for the endgame of a herocentric empire or kingdom.

I want heroes to unlock maybe three times more quests and lairs via unlocks from unique building upgrades that come from this mod. From quests and lairs the player will get unique techs and special Paths that are full of traits all the other nations will be envious of.

The regular army will get nerfed by the same buildings that unlock the quests and new heroes. An equitable trade off and interesting choice.

I am thinking of having a city level cap of 3 but letting the capitol go all the way to 5.

Diplomacy, assuming it becomes something awesome to have, will get lots of bonuses from this kind of strategy. All the other nations will see you as quaint and docile, allowing you to take a Geneva style approach to other nations. You will get many diplomatic quests that involve destroying a ring or escorting a bride that will ensure peace in the realm. I want this mod to give more story and immersion to the player, while also playing significantly different than any other path to victory.

I really hope the Quest Victory is open to modding. I want there to be at least a few quests that will end the game in your defeat or savory victory. Good thing I can spawn anything anywhere and everywhere should you lose the last quest. Think Oblivion only bigger.

seanw3, if you have the actual modding ability and perseverence to back up your ambitious ideas, your mods will make Elemental into a hugely awesome and versatile game.

I'm honestly not sure if changes to this degree are even possible, though.

I have been modding since the WoM beta. Everything I post here is moreso just notes for the mods I am planning. I don't honestly know if i will get the time bring all of these to fruition, but I already have the tiles made, the text written for many of the quests, and very solid grasp of what the game can do. As you may have noticed from my posting frequency, my job allows alot of free time throughout the day right now.

I have been waiting to make the game awesome since the failed release in 2010. It might be grounds for committal at this point.  O:)   }:)
