Miners not working in TA

Hi

I just started playing the Twilight of the Arnor expansion and I noticed that my miners didnt work at all. 

 

There is not mining module installed (on the first miner you get on "new game") and there is no mining module available in the shipyard.

 

Selecting the Space Miner only gives me a greyed out option to "construct" and nothing else.. 

What is wrong?

I have the Ultimate Edition and the miners works fine in Dark Avatar.

I have no idea, they work fine for me.  Do you have any mods installed?

Sometimes if you type Kryo's name, he appears with a helpful response.

(I've never had problems with miners in TA either; but I haven't played all the tech trees and it's been a long time since I used my free miner to mine--I upgrade them to colony ships.)

That's what you should see when a colony ship is selected... does the upper right show a colonist count or a level/xp bar?

Also, what race and ship style are you using?

Is it possible to build a custom race without the ability to build miners at the start?

No, you get miners automatically.

Besides, miners are helpful! Why not have one?
