A dangerous world

Even the “barren” and “boring” deserts are dangerous

Having just come from working on War of Magic, the second title in the Elemental universe is a lot more intense. The world is filled with “stuff” right from the start. A lot of the stuff is good. Some of it, not so good. Every tile matters.

Every tile matters comes into play in a big way when you decide to found a city. With food now a local resource, your cities have to feed themselves. You can still build a city anywhere you’d like but obviously if you build in a desert or wasteland that city isn’t going to thrive. And since how fast you build things (or train things) is based on production which in turn is affected by population and local resources (rather than a fixed set of turns) it matters a great deal where you put things.

At a basic level, the source of conflict in Fallen Enchantress is that resources are scarce and someone wants what you’ve got (or vice versa).  And those resources are derived from the land itself.

And the land is not your friend.

I know it was late last night so you probably don't remember saying I can have the beta today. Just have it to me by 3pm.

You won't want it.  Fallen Enchantress is going to suck and give you cancer. :)

And we have only been trying to find a cure for cancer, well, since everyone started getting it.  We've been making a lot of progress haven't we, a cure is always "just around the corner".

Best regards,
Steven.

While we're on the topic. Please implement a more elegant solution to this madness:

Hmm, the world may seem dangerous. But you know what I'm not seeing? Stalking Devil Deer.

Dang, I like circles. Circle shrimp, circle medley, circle biscuits, circle pancakes, circle muffins, circle jerks, etc.

Squares are cool too, but hexes are way cooler.

Anyway, keep the circles alive somewhere.

Can you tell us which person is going to do the actual changes to unit UI so I can send he or she a Christmas card?  :star:

Also, have we forgotten that some cancer gives you psychic powers?

FE is going to give us all Telepathy!

Well, I do the UI design on FE and then Paul Boyer takes it from there.

I'm sure I have a sketch somewhere but basically there will be an army box to the right of the selected unit that shows the units in the army and displays a cue to let you know how many units you can potentially have in your army based on your tech level (starts at I think 4 units per army and goes up from there but I'm not sure what it'll end up being).

Sweet! We are getting logistics. The best part of GalCiv IMO.

Now we just need a sweet, polished UI like Gal Civ 2 ....

I hope the tech that increases army size is called Discipline. It's the best fit for the theme.

Some garrison slots in cities maybe? That I wouldn't need to find-click my 6 units if I want to take them out?

I'd like the tiles with stuff in them to blend with the terrain better. Like the stuff in the tile at the top of the screenshot that extends into the neighboring tiles. The other ones look square and weird when put next to each other...
