[Spell Idea] Clone

I think this spell could be very funny. On tactical battles it could cause a lots of surprise to anybody. (Excuse me for my bad english.)

The spell: When a chaneller cast this spell, on the adjacent tiles (random adjacent tiles) appears one or two max three (depends on spell level) clones. Additionaly the chaneller randomly changes place with its clones (or stay), so the enemy doesn't know where is the chaneller.

The clones behave exactly as the chaneller. They make the same actions, but they are only illusions. Their relative positions to the caster are fixed. So only the chaneller can move, and the clones move with. If they clash anything when the chaneller moves they disappear. I they are attacked they disappear. If the chaneller attackes somebody in melee he uncloak himself, so all the clones disappear. If the chaneller uses ranged attack, but one of its clones is out of range that clone disappears.

On highest level the chaneller could clone other units either, but i think this case would be enough only one clone.

This spell can be worked out in a lots of way. This was one of them.

Opinions?

This kind of spell would be very useful if casters had a tendency to get sniped by spells/ranged attacks. However, it is certainly very extravagant version of what could be a simple spell. You could just make a spell that makes the next 2 or 3 attacks/spells have a 50% chance of missing. It accomplishes basically the same effect, requires much less coding, and can have a simpler look (not creating extra units). The main difference is whether or not you can block the enemy's melee units with clones, but they could add in wall spells to accomplish that separately.

You are right. It is possible to make a spell with similar effects in a more simple way. But this can give you an other feeling and needs more tactic.

But it requires a lot of coding . . . yes. And i think it is too complicated to teach the AI to use it properly. So i don't think that in this way this spell could be part of the new spells. But every idea can lead to an other idea :)

For example you said: "You could just make a spell that makes the next 2 or 3 attacks/spells have a 50% chance of missing."

Yes, there could be some similar. But it could be more interesting with a simple visual effect. On the tile of the caster would appear the clones (with some fade effect maybe). This case the coding would me much easier.

How about cloning an opposing unit as a spell? Or maybe a certain race could have a doppelganger as a unit?

More Magic the Gathering influence please. :P
