An AI with a Super Weapon, A crazy idea?

An AI with a Super Weapon, A crazy idea?

I'm not too sure if this has been raised elsewhere or by someone else, however...

The last four games I have played against normal TEC AI, have all ended with my planets being continuously bombarded by their Super Weapon spam, and consequently, result in me loosing those planets, and then the game.

It would be nice to be able to either:

A) Turn off at the setup screen, the ability to build super weapons for that game, or,

B ) Code in some kind of 'ethical' (we won’t shoot you if you don’t shoot us - MAD) AI behaviour.

As for now, my games are turning into "The first to get the crazy giant space gun is winrar!".

Perhaps something to think about for a Rebellion release.

Wait...there are humans!?

if your lucky, might find the tool that only uses a bot to play for whatever reason :/

I don't have an issue with the AI using superweapons.  The issue I have, at least recently, is that the AI has researched superweapons 20 minutes into a game.  Assuming all players are starting at the same level, this should be impossible, at least at the lower levels at which I play the game.  How can a fair AI player have superweapons when I've barely built up enough resources and research to conquer 3 planets?  Then they just sit back and blast my colonies to kingdom come.  Really, a superweapon before you've researched high enough for multiple capital ships?

It really depends on what AI level you're playing at, but it also sounds like you could be expanding faster as well. Depending on the planets you're next too, you could get a lot more planets in 20 minutes.

Well it would change the dynamic of the game, something unexpected is always a good thing. Maybe send a small fleet to take out the super weapon and then leave.

If you're expanding smart and well (colony cap + scouts + turrets) you should be able to get 5 planets by 10 or 11 minutes or so (my record is 5 planets by 6 minutes). Even if you're playing against like Cruel or Vicious, you shouldn't be seeing AI superweapons for a long time. Either your reported time is wrong or there's a serious bug with the game.

I've played dozens of full-length games of Sins, and I've never seen the AI build a superweapon...

Since this thread was created I've played at least 4 different 7v1 games against random Hard AI (upping to Unfair at 1hr, vicious at 2hrs), and I've never seen a superweapon in AI hands.  I never build them myself (I really dislike the superweapons in general...), and I've never seen the AI build one either.

I hope they upgrade the TEC Novalith cannon. Its basically just a huge rail gun. I've never really like how the base of it looks. I hope they make it look a lot cooler though.

Its only in Sins Diplomacy 1.3+.
