Congrats on finishing up War of Magic.  While this game is nowhere near as great as Twilight, this may just have been your best support job yet.  You did a great job bringing this game up to respectability.

finishing ? *pulls in trolley filled with paper stacks of things needed*

but true yes it has improved alot.

(edit)

on another note is there any difference on the beta before this release ?  or the same ?

after the continued support on this game & the hiring & full focuse on E:FE, I can only wonder what's instore for the 2nd 'Expansion',  You have my oath that if you put in a multi-body type race generator I'll buy at least 5 additional copies for family & friends (Ofcourse I'm getting my copy for free).

Just think of the replayability if people could 'create' there own minataurs, arachnid humaniods, Lizardmen, & others (to save from making a two page list), and have them as a minor faction, or make a Lord of the rings game or Dragon lance without having to rely on modders making 'your' specific race you'd like added.

edit: with mulitplayer or half of them wouldn't want it (been playing games with the same group since the original Ganghis Khan & Romance of the three kingdoms)

Best update yet! :D Thanks Stardock for the awesome support of this game! I enjoy playing the game. And for each update, I like to play it again and again. And from playing it since early beta stages and then trying it today. It's almost a different game! I love Elemental: War of Magic, and I am really excited about the sequel. Two Thumbs Up!

I agree. I would like more unique race options rather than all humanoid looking. If I could edit my own races it would be simply amazing. On a different note it has been awhile since I tried a game of Elemental. So starting up the coffee maker, day off tomorrow, and Elemental'ing it up tonight! Thanks for your hard work and dedication Frogboy and Team.

Firstly, I have to say that it's a very long time since WoM kept me up untul 4.30 am.  And secondly what a commendable job has been done, to bring the game almost up to speed.  Many things have been fixed and tweaked, and more than being playable, it's fun!  And not a single crash, touch wood..  Some great work on the AI, I have to say - both strategic and tactical.  At last, the AI has cottoned on to actually casting spells, yayy!!  And cities are no longer defended by just one peasant and his dog.  The game that I'm playing now is a real challenge.

Still two glaring errors:  Goodie huts that have no goodies inside them, that just sit there sparkling.  And the biggest one of all - Initiative

If only the FE Initiative system could be ported to WoM, it would improve the gameplay no end.  As we all know, it is simple to just wait for the enemy to walk into a fist (or a battleaxe), so the AI is at a crippling disadvantage.

It's not a game-breaker, and I'm sure that something could be done to correct this.  I just have to say that the balance in 1.40 is sooo much better than previous versions.  At one point, I actually felt that I was playing a deluxe version of MoM, which is high praise indeed.

Keep going, keep shining it and it still could be a classic!

Haven't played EWOM for a long, long time, but reinstalled it about 3 days ago while sick from work.  1.3 was a nice improvement, but 1.4 is really starting to show signs of being a great game.  I don't know if it is there yet, but what's left is just a bit of polish, not the dramatic changes that it needed when it shipped.

I really, really appreciate that Stardock has kept with this title and persisted in making this a much better game.  I don't buy that many games at this point in my life, but I got excited about this title/concept and shelled out the cash.  In the beginning I was pretty disappointed, but the game at 1.4 is quite good, and I enjoyed playing it last night (and even a bit this morning).

Stardock, Thank you for your good work on this game!  Keep it up!  :)

OK, great update, but a few problems still. Here are some that I noticed after playing a bit last night:

1) Beacon of hope description says it provides +1 presteige, but it actually produces +10! The result was a population explosion. The Palace suffers from this as well.

2) After a group of 4 peasents leveled up from lvl 1 to lvl 2, thier Max HP got buffed, but thier current HP remained the same. The result was that suddenly the stack of 4 was now a stack of 2 in the next battle :(

Thats all so far.

Please stop mana from going into the negative.  I'm not sure what was draining it, but now I'm stuck with -700 mana, with no hope of casting another spell in the rest of the game - there are very few shards on the map.

Also, please add a strength requirement for the heavier armour and weapons - all my heroes are now identical tanks.

Game is crashing now - the quill pointer changes to a Windows arrow, and the game freezes..

And now, finally, I am tempted to purchase the game.  How long has it been in process, over a year now?  I drooled over the teasers, got excited about the descriptions and FAQ, hoped it was the game I always wanted to play... but I waited for a few reviews and some user feedback.  I'm glad I did. But based on this new release, I think it's time to buy!

I am willing to try 1.4.  I am encouraged by the fact that the developers continued to invest in this game, given the negativity surrounding it (much of which I must say was deserved).  I pre-purchased this game, hoping to fund the development of a spiritual successor to Master of Magic.  Honestly, I don't think this game compares to Master of Magic, but I was heartened by the inclusion of Kael on the development team (his FFH & FFH2 mod for Civ IV was the best thing to happen to that series).  That showed a sense of commitment and an astute choice based upon the gaming populace.  I certainly hope, after more than a year since I purchased it, I will be able to finally enjoy the experience.

I pre-purchased this game, hoping to fund the development of a spiritual successor to Master of Magic.

This was my motivation exactly. Master of Magic has held a place on my hard drive almost continuously since I discovered it in my adolescence and WoM looked like the closest thing I've seen to its spiritual successor when I pre-ordered it. With all the work Stardock has put into it since 1.0, WoM really has become the game that comes closest to giving me the strategic fantasy kingdom-building fix that I get from MoM.

I think the only thing that keeps it from reaching, or surpassing, my love of MoM are the spells and maybe the magic system in general. I enjoyed the sense of truly epic power I got towards the end of a game of MoM as I was casting Flame Strikes and summoning Torin the Chosen; Elemental just doesn't tickle my dopamine receptors with quite the same sense of magical omnipotence that keeps me coming back to MoM a few times every year. Even this isn't really a flaw, though, just a difference in design that I happen to find moderately less appealing. Anyone working on a mod for the domineering magical overlord lurking within me? :-P

Okay, this update has totally screwed up my game.

1. Some buildings no longer build and are "stuck" in the building tab, not being built

2. My unit costs are now all messed up, and some units are only allowed to train on experianced not normal (or stuck on group setting)

3.  All units minus Peasant, Pioneer, and Caravan WILL NOT train at all (and the costs and such are STILL WRONG)

4. I have NO custom mods spells, builds, or anything else, yet it still says it is "Loading Mods" or something of the sort

5. Sometimes my units AND cities DO NOT gain experience OR level up in any way.

So might I ask WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???? Is there a way to fix this?????? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME

(EDIT) I would appreciate it if SOMEONE would either PM me, Reply to this in this forum, or E MAIL me their ideas or SOMETHING ([email protected])

Sgt_Harris did you upgrade from an old version of the game? There are some issues when that happens. If you upgraded from 1.1 or anything before, you should uninstall by removing your entire folder and downloading the game again from impulse.

I updated from 1.3, and had the same issue. So the first time I DID uninstall and reinstall using Impulse....then nothing, it is still happening (Plus doing that made me lose my custom character and Faction which sucked)

Any other ideas?

(EDIT) Forgot to say I also have the Relic of Agerlynn download or whatever it is from Wal Mart buying it so yeah

At this point it makes a lot more sense to wait for the expansion (Fallen Enchantress), because that will cost you similar amounts of money but comes with far more dramatic changes.

From what I've read, Fallen Enchantress is designed as a completely different game.  Same world, different style.  I went ahead and purchased the game last night, fired up the first game this morning, and promptly died by a Bear. lol!  I decided "Hey, maybe I should RTFM!"  So I sat down to read the handy PDF manual... and it only matches up about 50% with what I saw in the game.  That's disappointing.  To be fair, I'd rather the devs spent more time on game balance and fun than on documentation, but still, I like to know the rules of the game and the manual seems at least 2 version out of date.  Some abilities have bee nerfed (Daring is 3%, not 5% in the manual), some have apparently been changed completely, some have been added (Attunement, for example); some kingdoms have no disadvantages (unlike the manual says), some heroes have big disads (unlike the manual says), etc.

I'm gonna play it tonight (wife-free evening!) and see if I keep it or put it away...

It's been dead for a while now, it sucks

So maps have to be one continent. :-<

Pretty much.....it killed the whole idea of oceans and continents and separate powers developing on each, it killed a lot of the game i liked when they took it away
