Facebook Redesigned…… fb 2.0 and a great, free extension: “Better Facebook”

As some of us have found to our delight or chagrin (or both), Mark Zuckerberg announced two new features to facebook

1)  “Timeline” is "the story of your life" significantly altering the way people's information is shown on the world's leading social network, presenting "all your stories, all your apps, and a new way to express who you are.", Zuckerberg said, "It's how you can tell the whole story of your life on a single page." Zuckerberg said that Timeline is already enabled for mobile devices.

2) “Ticker”, part of the next version of the social network's Open Graph, according to Mr. Zuckerberg. The idea, he said, is to enable a "completely new class of social apps." The elements of Open Graph that help people discover media content like music, movies, TV, and news will be available immediately.

“Last year, Zuckerberg said, Facebook rolled out Open Graph, a map of all a user's connections in the world, and made it so users can connect to anything they want in any way they want. But now with the next Open Graph, he said, users will also be able to connect to an order of magnitude more things than ever before using Ticker, a way to express "lightweight" actions, thoughts, and other things anytime they want.” – Daniel Terdiman, c|net

Meanwhile, thanks go out to Hankers who told me about a cool way to customize one’s facebook page with “Better Facebook”.

The app doesn’t change privacy settings (unless you want it to) nor anything else…. unless you wish to alter what appears on the page. There’s an easy, fully explained 10 step features setup which is not at all laborious and let’s you think about what you’re doing and you decide what feature you want or don’t. Very slick, Mr. Kruse!

One exception to note: This extension won’t work with Internet Explorer, but will with everything else.

There’s a good choice of skins to choose from and more under development…. Oh yes… It’s free!

seems a bit odd that he chose to not fix it working with IE. I also think his statement of " Internet Explorer is a bad browser" is a complete crock.

No it isn't. IE9 sux for me at work but that is just because some of the sites I go to need to be updated.

Don't know why he didn't make one for ie... not critical for me as I use FF/Opera/Chrome/Comodo Chrome... 

Doe seem to be a bit petulant, but hey, just like a skin - use the extension is you like, or don't if not.

Either it works for you or not.

Maybe he has a grudge against MS (many do)... I wouldn't let it prevent me from enjoying something I found useful.

double edge statement.. I find IE useful. (although I use chrome quite a bit at home). However the primary browser for MOST people is IE and quite a large number wouldn't feel comfortable switching ( unless they are power users ).

To me, looks like most people use Firefox... about twice as many as IE.

I checked this out.  My wife's huge into FB and I just have an account and check in from time to time.  I use firefox.  Anyway, I couldn't pick out any major differences as I don't use it much, and neither could my wife.  Glad to have checked it out, but no huge win for me. Thanks for the post at any rate.

Are those statistics from here or facebook. If they are from here then they are irrelevant to the OP. If those are statistics for the general population then I stand corrected.

 

Edit: I see you got your info from w3schools. However, the stats at this link... http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser-ww-monthly-201008-201108 paint a different picture.

As does Wikipedia 

Wonder which is accurate? No matter to me really..

Who does one believe? I don't automatically discount Wikipedia... and ie does have a huge plus on socially engineered malware. Just everything I've seen up until now has shown a marked preference for FF.

In Europe FF>IE.

Also, don't forget that's all versions of each... and I get different stats at each place I visit. It seems IE is ahead and declining while FF is steady and Chrome is increasing... You've got me. I don't know what to believe.

If the developer wishes to not include IE as a browser that his add-on will work with, then that is his choice.

The post gives FB users a link to an add-on that they can either use or not bother with. Nothing more, nothing less.
