:karma:     Hi folks, I have a problem that's been bugging me for weeks..... I recently reinstalled my Window's 7. When it came to the question about allowing WiFi connections on my PC I answered no. Cuz I have a PC. Why would I need WiFi??? 8C

Well as life would have it I am now in a position where I can only get WiFi to get on the internet where I'm living. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

I have tried everything I can think of but, still can't get that darn pc connection to accept anything. It doesn't even acknowledge that it exists....{wifi}

If anyone can help I will be such a happy gal!!!!!!!!!!   I have to go to the library to access the internet so, if I dont't answer right away know that it's not my fault and will reply as soon as possible.

Hi RedneckDude, I'm wondering where I would find the number. There are 4 different sets of numbers on the back of the tower. 2 sets confirm Microsft  was purchased.      Except maybe the product key? or 1 set of random numbers. Not sure which you want?  Or maybe it's inside the tower?  Just let me know.

If she has an open PCI slot on that HP. Chances are, it has a modem in the one slot it has.  I was basing my advice on the fact she may not be comfortable working inside her rig. On the other hand, anyone can plug in a USB device, and it can be used on any computer she may want to hook up.

Also, as I pointed out, an onboard card may require her to move the PC to a better spot to get a good signal.

 Either way, if she can't connect with a USB adapter, an onboard isn't  isn't going to be any better or easier.

In that case, go for it. as long as you have an open slot, onboard does give better speed at about the same price. If you have good signal, placement may not be an issue.

Right click on Computer in the start menu and select Properties. The Model of your PC should be listed there under System.

And I also have info on my adapter.  Network adapter Realtek RTL8168C [P] 181111C[P] Family PCI-E Gigabit Eternet NIC[ndis 6.20].

Nope, that's your motherboard. I wanted the make and model of your PC. That's ok, I think Wiz and Yrag have you going in the right direction.

 

From your screenshot, I thought your PC said HP on the front.

Looking at your motherboard on the Internet IROKONESS there is only one place on it where that wireless card you ordered will fit. If it already has another card in it you may be out of luck, but as it looks like it has on-board video the slot may just be open. I would suggest having a technician or someone highly knowledgeable install and configure the wireless card though to be safe.

I was just thinking that through also. I haven't ordered from Newegg yet because of complications. I can't enter the Canadian Province or area code. Although it took my registration OK. But, to order was different.  Which could be my good luck at the moment. It's good to have it confirmed that I do not have a wireless card in my pc. So that's why my D-Link wireless adapter doesn't work right?  Or is it suppose to replace it, therefore work? 

I'm going to the city this weekend so I'll bring it to Future Shop. With this knowledge it will save me some time and money.

 What you have now(USB) will work fine, all you need is a bit of local help to configure it the first time. After that, connecting will be a snap.

BTW, Your Graphics card slot will be PCIe and that Wireless card is a PCI. If you have a dial up modem installed, it will be in a PCI slot.

That would be just the best.   I was wondering about the dial up modem though?  I have no modem at all. But, it's usually cable or satellite.

And I don't have a Wireless card in my pc is the consensus. I concur.  So my wireless usb should replace that?

Odds are, you'll never use dial-up. It's sloooooooooooow, my brother has to use it where he lives and it's no fun at all.

If you have a wireless USB adapter, it should pick up wireless signals just fine if it is installed and configured correctly.  Putting it on an extension cable that move it closer to the signal does not hurt either. On mine all I did was plug it in and Windows 7 configured it itself, all I had to do was connect to the wireless connection after that.

I've heard of how slow dial up is. Yikes  We find the patience when we have to though. Pretty resilient. :)      Also I have a cat5 cable but no I believe no phone jack.

Cat5 cable needs no phone jack. It uses a port that looks like a phone jack, only bigger.

Fixed!!  Yay  I had to uninstall the D-link drivers and replaced them with Window 7's. Voila
