Building Interest

As many of you have pointed out, the forums aren't exactly teaming with people these days, even with all of the recent developer updates. Many people gave up on Elemental, and not many new people are trickling in. I'm sure this will change a bit as we get closer to Fallen Enchantress.

I've been mentioning all of the progress here on some of the forums I visit. Once beta comes out, I'm hoping that I will be able to report that it really is a big improvement over WoM. At some point, either in beta or after release, I plan to do an AAR to showcase the game. I really enjoy reading that kind of thing when it is well written and gets into the gameplay rather than becoming weird gaming fan fiction. That sort of thing can help sell other people on the game - assuming that I myself enjoy it!

I know that there are hordes of gamers out there dying for a good strategy game. I see people talking about it all the time, or complaining the currently available titles. My hope is that FE will be good enough to bring back many of the people that felt burned by WoM and also draw in lots of new people as well. It would be a real shame if FE turns out great, and all that hard work is wasted because people aren't willing to try it after WoM or just aren't aware of it.

I, for one, will be a newcomer to Elemental - so I'm not too pre-conditioned on it - and I'm willing to put my gaming dollar on Fallen Enchantress.

I haven't been exposed to good strategy titles in a long while (I kinda lost interest when the RTSs took over) but recently I've tried out Fall from Heaven 2; to find out what Derek had achieved. And I'm well impressed. As it stands, I'm very hopeful for Fallen Enchantress.

Talking about Fall From Heaven 2, I'm very intersted to see what Derek can do when not tied by limitations of just modding a game. While Fall from Heaven 2 was excellent, it did suffer quite a lot from a clunky UI and a variety of limitations due to being just a Civilization mod instead of its own game.

With regards to people not being interested in Elemental right now, there's not much that can (or in my opinion should) be done about it before FE is released. The ball is in Stardock's court now, and they only have one shot to make Elemental what it was supposed to be. As long as no new game is out, War of Magic is the only thing of actual substance that people judge Elemental by.

If Fallen Enchantress is as good as we all hope, I believe it could get a lot of extra coverage *because* of the failure of War of Magic. It's a really good subject for an article about game development. And it's been over a year since the release of War of Magic. Most people who held a grudge back then have probably already moved on.

Yeah "bad" press is better than "no" press right?  Maybe the EWOM disaster will have been a blessing in disguise.  We'll see.  I'm already starting to feel the cancer caused by EFE so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'm pretty sure it's not after WoM. Bad press will be greeted with "oh god, not again" and people running for the hills.

The press is starting with cancer. It can only go uphill from here

What if this game gets a republican into the White House and they ban all videogames to save the economy? That is worse than cancer!

Logical falacy - the gaming industry has overtaken Hollywood as a moneymaker. They cannot afford to save the economy by shutting it down ;)

Politics have nothing to do with logic. I think we all saw that when they refused to raise the debt ceiling.
