Capture the Relic

(CTF like Game Mode)

How about a Capture the Relic mode where a non captureable gravity well spawns a capturable prize on a similiar time frame to when pirates spawn.

This prize can be picked up by a colony ship, and if carried to the capital world of a faction, results in a hefty bonus (resources, money, planetary or tech bonus (similiar to planetary relics), pirates immediatly launch at all other factions, You get the idea. It's worth capturing.

 

However there's a catch. The ship carrying the relic moves at a slower speed (I suggest half) and has reduced or zero firepower.  Making it easy to intercept, it has to be escorted...

Well I think king of the hill is the most requested game mode, I agree this sort of capture the flag thing could also work well, if harder to implement. Problem is where exactly does the relic spawn? If its at the same planet all the time, it will basically just turn into king of the hill as players fight to control and starbase that gravitywell. And if its random, how do you ensure it spawns at a world all players can have access to it?

Well as I said, non capturable well, solar wells might work also.

 

Obviously it would work better on a designed rather than random map, but I think it would be a lot of fun. I like the idea of the spawn happening at different places.

 

Perhaps the capturing ship has to be in the well for a period of time before it can capture it, and while the relic is spawning, it does massive damage to combat ships and stations in the well?

Agreed it sounds nice. A non capturable well that disallows the building of starbases. It is possible with current code.

Even if a capturable structure, with 1,000,000 hp so it just can't die, you then need a capture ship... but even with all that in place, there is nothing that counts the time player holds structure or any way to assess victory after an hour.  SINS is too limited.  Requires something else, what it is, who knows, but it isn't in SINS now.  X(  

Lament over all that could have been... then just blow up ships; you'll feel better.

 

Players end map after an hour and declare a winner based on amount of damage done over an hour.  :rolleyes:

Honestly I think if this game mode was to be done properly it would need to have starbases disabled everywhere. Otherwise winning just becomes a matter of starbasing all the gravity wells that lead to the relic. It would also be a nice throw back to the days of Vanilla Sins where highly mobile fleets were the norm I think.
