Game carn't find data file on start up?

I updated the game yesterday to 1.39 and had no problem running the game then. I was even using the map editor which means i have to restart the game many times (since the game is incapable of switching from one map to another or switching from map editor to game play without crashing.) I probably did have Impulse running in the background tho, but normally i do not keep Impulse on.

This morning when i tried to run the game with Impulse off, after a while it gives me a message that it cannot find the data file and that i should make sure i am logged in to Impulse??

I do not normally run impulse and or connect my computer to the internet unless i specifically need it. I do this so i can disable all the antivirus and firewall so my computer will run faster for gaming.

No previous version of the game has forced me to run Impulse, if that is the issue here?

the beta (1.39) requires internet access UNLESS you have the '/LOCALDATAONLY' switch in the commandline for the shortcut.

Cheeky Beta!

I will have to see if i can get the command line switch working.

There are quite a few games that do not think customers have any right to choose weather or not they are connected to the internet.... i don't own any of them!

In fact, ALL of the Elemental betas have required internet access. It downloads the datablob everytime you open it.

However, you shouldn't need Impulse open. If you get that error, try hitting shift + tab. This should bring up the impulse login within Elemental.

Your probably right that i would not get the error save for the fact that my internet cable is unplugged!

to set up the shortcut, right mouse click on the shortcut to elemental, then left click on the properties, then in the TOPentry field (labeled 'Target') at the right end after the final ' " ' (you can get to this location in the field by pressing the 'end' button on the keyboard) press the space bar, then make sure the caps lock is ON and type in '/LOCALDATAONLY' (the extra does NOT work if in lower or mixed case only upper case), then click on the 'ok' button at the bottom of the properties window.
