Game crashes randomly nonstop, I get maybe 5-10 minutes

This has been an ongoing problem for a long time now, I would really like to be able to play the game as I spent $50 on it when it released and sadly the game actually ran fine when it released for me.  After a patch or two, I can't remember specifically which one the game began crashing nonstop.  I gave up on it shortly after the game released, decided this weekend to give it another shot because surely the problems are fixed by now... alas they are not.

It can't be my video card, my previous one was a ATI card, I upgraded to a NVidia months ago.  I also since the game has released purchased a new video card, processor, motherboard, memory and have the exact same problem.

The problem is I will load up my game, play for a bit, everything is fine and out of nowhere blam I am on my desktop with no error message.  I load it back up, plays for 5-10 crash, rinse, repeat, infinity.

I am currently running...

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Processor 3.0ghz

8 gigs of ram

NVidia GeForce GTX 470 running the latest drivers updated today in fact from 8/09/2011

My system can run every game in existence on maximum levels, i have attempted to lower graphic settings, turn off features, I saw a thread suggesting playing the game in windowed mode, none of it helps.  I simply can't play the game without it crashing every 5-10 minutes and I am kind of at the end of my patience with this game.

I need a fix for this please, thanks in advance!

It gets even better, I saw you had the beta 1.39, I figured it can't get any worse why not try it out.  Plugged it in, caused all kinds of goofy in game glitches, thus why it is in beta, oddly enough it didn't crash but units stopped moving on their own if I give them a location to move to I had to manually move everyone each turn, some of my other units were stuck in landscape and could not get out, when I would finish research on a tech it wouldn't give it to me, I had to wait a couple of extra turns before it would let me pick one, etc, etc, etc, etc.

I decided ok I am done screwing around with this, I uninstalled the game via Impulse, was going to reinstall and see if I could not update it and see if it would be playable with game release bugs, but now it won't let me install it again because it claims the game is installed and needs to be uninstalled first.  I try to uninstall it and I get a "Could not access network location NO$KEY." error.

So I am literally at the point where I can't even install the game, even though if it were installed it was unplayable.  Just awesome!

have you tried the shift right-mouse click on elemental , and verify installation?

Thanks for the suggestion Harpo, unfortunately it did not solve my problem.  Impulse shows that it is not installed, when I shift right click on it there is no option to verify installation.  If I check in Windows under the uninstall section it is not listed as being installed either, I went as far as to delete the folder hoping that would solve the problem to no avail.

Ya that's just 1.39, it is a beta patch... Was it still crashing with no message?

Try uninstalling impulse?

the next suggestion is to delete the registry entry for elemental in the following path

Then launch the System Registry (Start-> run, and type regedit)
Look for and delete the following Keys;

32 bit windows

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\elemental
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Drengin.net\elementalDE

For Vista 64 bit and windows 7 64bit;
HKLM>SOFTWARE>Wow6432Node>Stardock>Drengin.net>elemental
HKLM>SOFTWARE>Wow6432Node>Stardock>Drengin.net>elementalDE

I think that the DE groups are for the destiny embers extra.

after deleteing the elemental branches, you should restart the computer then try downloading elemental again

Thanks again for the suggestions, I did the registry thing and no change when I tried to install it from the disc, but when I tried to install it from Impulse it finally let me reinstall it.  I am back where I was when I first installed 1.39 because the game auto-updated to 1.39 before I could stop it.  I am now able to run the game but with all the bugs I mentioned above, I suppose it is better than constant crashing but still not what I woulf call an enjoyable experience.

The main one that drives me crazy is the units not moving after I set them on a path, sometimes after a couple of turns they will move once and than stop again, other times they simply won't move.  The result is me not waging complicated wars that require me to move a ton of troops around because I have to manually move each one each turn.

to get it back to 1.3 all you have to do is turn OFF the show beta in impulse ,then do the SHIFT RIGHT mouse click verify installation in impulse when you have the 1.39 installed. by turn off the beta you will be able to get the 1.3 release version.

and yes I find the no continue moving bug very irritating.
