Pure Epicness!!!!!!

Is that a Titan or are you happy to see me.....

First, here's a shot that is unobstructed for everyone to see.....Kudos to Stardock for giving us this wonderful piece of eye candy of a Titan in action, even though it's just a rendition and not a actual game shot.

In the above shot, the Kol's are escorting the Athena with their rendezvous with an Orky....Freaking A, Kol's look like frigates next to a Titan Class ship....Check out how small the Cobalts are,,,,

Six Kortul's and support ships and the Orkulus ready for the showdown with the TEC Titan combat group. Now how bout that Vasari Titan and 30 seconds of live video of the new stuff in action.....

EPIC!

Pretty sure the green lines are Vasari strikecraft BTW. Don't know of any current weapon that looks like that.

Very nice, but the Athena just has sooo BORING side textures.  It needs a sprucing up.

I love the overall shape though.

Now if only Kols and Kortuls were actually worth building in those kinds of quantities under any realistic circumstance.

I do have to agree, though, this is a great piece of Sins art.

On the TEC side, I see an Athena, 5 Kols, 7 Colbalts, and 9 strike craft...  Assuming those aren't really Corvettes since strike craft flying into battle typically group up into their squads whereas these are all separate.  (But can't discount it since this is a artist conception and not a screenshot)  However they appear to be in a plasma storm which has the effect of preventing strike craft launch, (or I could just be reading into the background too much) which leads me to believe these are in fact Corvettes launched from the Titan.

On the Vasari side, I see the Orkulus, 6 Kortuls, and 4 possible Antoraks.

Battle prediction:  TEC wins.

While the Vasari capitals outnumber the attackers 2 to 1, the use of an Athena more then makes up for the difference in firepower brought to the fight.

Both sides disable each others abilities frequently, however the Cobalts utilize hit and run tactics and detonate the reactors of their targets allowing for the Kols to preserve their antimatter supplies for more aggressive tactics unlike the Kortuls and use them for their Gauss Rail Guns and Adaptive Force Fields.  As an added bonus to the Cobalts tactics, they quickly remove the ability of the Vasari to gate in reinforcements forcing them to take the long way in chewing up valuable time and make it difficult for the Kortuls to counter this tactic by withdrawing from the engagement zone begging them to leave their damage soaking and dealing brother, the Orkulus, behind.

Other then being able to avoid taking damage by phasing out briefly until their antimatter no longer exists, the Antoraks are basically just guns brought to bear on the TEC ships.  The Athena is happy to engage.

The Athena's 16 double barreled turret cannons easily outmatch the Orkulus in firepower.  Due to the fact they are positioned in a ring around the ship, as the Vasari ships surround her, she responds by targeting all of them at the same time and her outer 'wings' are mostly a protective armored band that is more then ready to take the brunt of the firepower this battle is capable of producing.  The Orkulus proves to be a worthy contender activating it's frontal deflector shielding and drawing more attention from the turret cannons leaving the Kols unsupported in their endeavors to destroy their nemesis capitals.

Assuming those are corvettes, and also assuming they are just larger versions of strike craft with a few new tricks, they all pick on one ship at a time and without a fighter screen to worry about, they have free reign to weaken their targets as they please.  Working in conjunction with the Kol's, they fly in and drop the shields as fast as they can, leaving it up to the Kols to use their GRG's to focus fire and punch holes through each and every ship.  They also take advantage of the Orkulus's positioning to engage the Titan and switch from bombs to torpedoes and attack it from it's more vulnerable behind using anti structure weaponry designed especially for them.

Strangely enough, Tchéky Karyo's voice can be heard over the comms saying "C'est la vie, mon ami!" right after the Corvettes make their final run on the Orkulus.  It's power coupling destabilizes and as it's main energy production core drifts further and further away from it's upper weapons platform, systems begin to overload with power surges.  Some systems compensate by shutting down, but others are left to deal with the increased load shed causing a tsunami of power to surge through every active system.  The resulting explosions are just the first wave of the demise of the Orkulus.

The Athena then turns her attention to the remaining Vasari ships and quickly mops them up.  All surviving TEC forces jump from the gravity well to rejoin the main battle group and await the arrival of the Vasari reinforcements that are en route.

I'm shedding a small tear right now as I look at this concept art. It brings up many questions for me but the most pressing one is this:

I am a turtler, won't make any bones about it. Love me some Starbase surrounded by Repair, gun platforms and a PJI. My question is, do we know if the Starbase will be getting any loving to help it cope with a Titan filled Universe? Or will Titans become essentially a MAD strategy ie You have 1 so the only way I can defend is to get 1 myself?

It's not that I am against having to build a Titan. I probably will, they look like pure ownage. But if I wanted to Turtle, does the Titan more or less ruin that? I would gladly pay for a level 7 or 8 Lab upgrade that would give me a few more upgrade points for Star-base's. I would also love more abilities to choose from but barring that, I would be satisfied with being able to put 2-3 more upgrades on the Starbase which would make it a bit more competitive with the likely might of the Titans. For instance with 2 more you could max out Weapons, Armor, StrikeCraft & Override for the Argonev which would make for a fairly effective Defensive Tank.

As usual, thank's Stant for you analytically detail of one possible outcome in the depicted battle above. Also, great photo's that you added with the increased graphic detail.

@ gamerlamb Titan's are definitively late game additions like the super weapons. More than likely, they will be as powerful as star bases, if not more. I wouldn't be surprised if they are tier 9 to 12 for the additional research that will be needed to move such large behemoths through Phase space. Good ideal on the increased research for star bases against Titans.

Now my next question is this, if this is Athena, Titan Class Capital ship...

Is this Zeus, and if so, are they loyalist or rebels....

Let the discussion begin.....

The new lore says that the loyalist TEC has decided to turtle themselves around what they have left and ride out what is left of the war, therefore I think they will get the Athena as it looks like a defensive vessel (especially if Stant is right that the two "wings" are (extremely) heavy armor plates)

Have they announced the name of the other titan? I didn't think so, nevertheless, it looks more like an offensively oriented vessel with tons of strike craft (that massive hanger) with a possible heavy bombardment/ remote bombardment ability (if that forward opening is a miniature novalinth)

On the other hand, the forward opening might be a frigate factory, effectively switching their roles so I don't know

I was thinking the exact same thing, though I would argue that a mobile factory is just as offensive as defensive. Thus either way the Athena is the Loyalists and the other one is the Rebels.

If it is a mobile factory, I would love to be able to store up a small group of frigates that would spit out in the midst of battle for a nice surprise attack. Supreme Commander 2 Super Air Fortress anyone? Yes Please

I would tend to agree with the 'mini-novalith' and 'srike-craft' assumptions based on looking at this Titan. I could however also 'imagine' that other than a slow recharging mini-novalith and strike-craft it would likely have a heavy missile compliment. Not sure about 'anti-strike craft' defenses other than a beefed up flak burst?

Ok, dude, your battle description was really great, epic, and you should seriously consider getting treatment :)

Jokes aside, this is just amazing, and  I feel sorry for the Vasari.

Hahaha.  Treatment?  For that?  I write lore for Distant Stars.  If I can't describe one silly little battle (even if it's not completely tactically accurate, and I forgot to include several of the weapons that would have been used) then I would definitely have to seek treatment.

The Vasari need no sorrow foolish monkeys! While you're fleets were throwing themselves at our Orkulus class battlestation, our Dark Fleet has savaged your home worlds, taken your materials, and built 4 Orkuli in the Primary here.

Now witness the power of a TRUE, FULLY FUNCTIONAL, Titan as it enters the gravity well and destroyes your dreams, your history, and your hopes!

Muhahahaha!

You gotta see the battle from a Vasari angle...

The newly commissioned and upgraded TEC Titan is the first to hear the ominous warning, "Inbound Hostiles" and alerts the fleet to re-group at maximum weapon range to send the invading bastards to hell.  One jump out and the probes deployed do their job.  Probes detect the Antorak Maruader led fleet of mixed support, mainly long range frigates and a dozen nasty utility cruisers; definitely primary.  A Skirantra enters the gravity well leading at least a dozen Lasurak Transporters; but so far nothing heavy.  Perhaps after the last battle, their resources have been so depleted that this is all they can muster.

Fleet Regrouped, Titan in position at max weapon range... if only the damn Starbases were mobile, it's firepower alone could deal with these vermin.  60 seconds to contact, Vasari forces arranging for phase jump.  The trap is then sprung.  A Kostura shell is detected coming in from just 2 phase jumps out, then another from 4, and then it is clear, they have been lured to their deaths.  The Antorak breaks ranks and jumps prematurely, timing its arrival just ahead of the first Kostura warhead.  Phase Stabilization Node Active... then time stops...

The Vasari, ever cunning, have built up their fleet just for this moment.  The TEC pushed their worlds to the breaking point to construct their assault-specialized Titan; the Vasari commander was almost proud their efforts, but neither chose to mimic the doomed humans or grant them forgiveness for this oversight.  The fleet comprised of 3 Devastators, 2 Evacuators, 3 dozen Ruiners, and 20 Enforcers waits for the Antorak to activate its phase stabilization driver and the first Kostura shell to assure victory.

20 seconds later... the doomed humans get flashes of images.  Wreckage of cruisers and frigates litter the area.

40 seconds later... fewer humans witness two Kol Battleships beginning to explode and Ruiners streaking toward Titan.

60 seconds later... the Titan, shields stripped and hull breached in several areas attempts to activate its ...

Another Kostura shell, a fourth... how did they build four of the damn things?  The commander is about to consider the lack of a Titan, the sheer number of exposive mines those damn Ruiners can... then nothing.  The fourth warhead impacts.

It is true after all, "no enemy has ever witnessed it [The Kostura Cannon] in action and survived."

}:)   Who needs a Titan when you can think outside the grav-well.

True. I would be fine without a Titan if they give me more sneaky ships (and tech, platforms, etc) to do sneaky things with.

The Vasari don't need ginormous ships to make up for any...lackings the human anatomy may have. Ohh yeah, we're evil HUNG space lizards.
