E:FE, Different ways to play?

As there's no "Ideas" sub-forum for FE yet I'll go ahead and post this here.

I recently spent about 40 hours playing several games of Master of Magic from start to finish and it renewed my hopes for E:FE but also reminded me of one of the main things that I loved about that game; there's so many different ways to play it.

Whether it was building massive armies of weak units, expanding like crazy, only focusing on a few built up cities, focusing on researching powerful spells quickly, teching to a certain unit quickly with the numerous unique races, summoning a certain hero/champion asap and leveling off of the neutral caves/dungeons/ruins, creating magic items/artifacts to strengthen said heroes/champions and then easily destroy the capitol city of your enemies, specializing in being a summoner and focusing on fantastical summoned creatures, or being a diplomat and trying to stay friendly as long as possible with your opponents.

There were just so many ways to play it and make a new gaming experience each time and I'm sure I didn't even list all the ways you could play that game. And remember... the old real flaws about MoM was that it was not multiplayer and it had a problem with either being too easy or too hard.

If E:FE takes the re-playability from that game that came out 16 years ago and is still playable to this day (even with its DOS graphics) and expands on it and figures out a way to keep it balanced without being too easy or too hard then all my hopes and dreams will be fulfilled, please make it a reality =]

Good points, and a running theme since early days of WoM development.

The main problem I see with the current system is that there isn't much variety within each win condition. You mention several different 'paths' to victory in MoM and each has different ways to go about it. In WoM, there isn't that variety. Sure, you can build an army of guys with bows or melee or some mix, but there isn't enough variety to make a difference. I think FE will fix that with the  more detailed / balanced units. In FE, you will have many more ways to customize your forces and will have to make more interesting design choices, so that should create different ways to play.

For the other win conditions, not so sure. We just don't have enough information yet to say one way or another.

Found these quotes in the dev journals:

There are five primary paths to victory in Fallen Enchantress.  They are Armies, Infrastructure, Champions, Magic and Diplomacy.

There are 3 primary focuses for Fallen Enchantress; Tactical Combat, Magic and the World.
