ETA for E:FE Beta?

Have there been any hints to this other than "soon"? Also, as an owner of the game when it came out will I have dibs on getting into the beta? =D

I really really wanna play this, after the epic failure of WoM and reading all the awesome stuff about FE.

No, and probably. Anybody who bought WoM early enough is getting FE anyway, it would make sense for those people to get beta access.

I did find in one of the dev posts that the beta will just "show up" in our impulse account one day this fall

Problem is that this fall is Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Diablo 3 beta, and Homm6......... we need E:FE NOW! =P

No we don't. :P The last thing we need is a half-implemented beta that gives people a bad impression.

This is an important release, they can afford to wait on a beta until it's actually beta ready.

totally agree, but beta has been in discussion for 5+ months :P

a limited closed beta for original game owners would do more good than harm imo

My guess is Fall 2011.

Once the decision was made to move towards a full blown sequel rather than an expansion pack the budget changed (translation: Impulse sale to GME provided a lot of capital and we decided to spare no expense).

well Fall officially starts Sept 22nd so I guess we gotta wait at least another month or two.. boooo

You're a horrible bussinesman. Think of the ROI, the poor ROI! X(

Ah, that's why I like StarDock and Brad; doing stuff because he likes it and not because he's a bean countering manager only seeing quarterly profits. :D

Or five, since "fall" ends on December 21. ;) (And thats if you take this as a real date rather then a guesstimate, which you shouldn't.)

Hm,, so we are calling it a full blown sequel now? I totally missed that. I'd be careful about calling it that because it is still in many ways the same game, AFAIK. Are there significant new art assets? New music? New sound? Major new features? I really like everything that we have seen of FE so far, but it still seems like more of a big expansion or significant overhaul than 'full blown sequel.' Then again, the whole 'expansion pack' concept has become very blurred in recent years, especially with the advent of DLC. Maybe I'm just mincing words. Anyways, I guess the only other thing besides the above that would define it as a sequel or not would be the price point. Has that changed? Will it be sold at full price? I know many of us are supposed to get it for free (still have a hard time believing that, but hey - like others have said, its what makes Stardock a company I believe in). but for that that don't, will they be asked to pay $40-$60 like most modern full price games? Or will it be priced more like an expansion pack?

The full price for Fallen Enchantress is likely going to be $39.95 and it’s a stand alone game (and in fact, we may sunset War of Magic entirely – i.e. no longer sell it new after FE is released – however we may continue to release updates to WOM after FE comes out regardless to satisfy ourselves and our fans who like its game mechanics).

I think they really only need to continue the story to call it a sequel dont they? I know when i got WoM and i played thru the pathetic excuse of a single player campaign i was epicly dissapointed because it felt like it was slapped together in 8 hours. FE sounds like its gonna have an epic campaign... and even if it doesnt its no biggie cuz most people just wanna play randomly generated maps like MoM anyway

That depends on what 'sequel' means to you. To me, sequel means "the next main game in a series" like Battlefield 1942 ---> Battlefield II ---> Battlefield III and a better engine. So Age of Wonders ---> Age of Wonders II and then Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic is an expanded version of Age of Wonders II since it uses the same engine.

Just because the game uses the same engine does no mean it is an expansion. Morrowind and Oblivion used the same engine. In fact, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas used the same engine as Morrowind. Are you telling me Oblivion is an expansion of Morrowind? I am just trying to understand your logic.

Morrowind was a different engine. Your point stands.

Well, definitely Fall 2011 now. Fall technically lasts through November, right?

I'm glad that Stardock is taking their time and not throwing a half assed beta at us, and we have been getting lots of neat little development updates to tide us over...but I'm still really excited for the beta and hope it comes sooner rather than later.

I'm disappointed. Fall ended months ago for me.

Greetings from the southern hemisphere by the way :D

Bah, your seasons aren't the real seasons. It is like people who try to speak of timezones other than God's one true Eastern Standard Time. Savages.

Four seasons are overrated. Down here we've also got mock-summer, almost-autumn, pseudo-winter and "YE ELDER GODS HELP US WE'LL FREEZE TO DEATH IN THE NEW ICEAGE". A good TBS beta would be nice during that last one, so would some woolly mammoths to hunt.

This is a cue to the animators to show off something!

Psh, GMT is the only important timezone. You are the savages EST!

P.S. I am from PST so there is little bias here.

The time-zone and hemispheric debate made me lol. Thank you gentlemen.

I wouldn't think so if Brad is just starting the tactical AI now.. I'll say hopefully before xmas tho

I would bet end of November.

I'm hoping they wait until early next year myself.

Polish the game until it gleams, don't send it out until it is ready.

I'm hoping to get the beta for my birthday in April next year.
