Craigslist horror story

$350 for a nice couch up on craigslist, that was what my girlfriend wanted to sell for it (as it was her couch).  Considering it had a loveseat, a full couch and an island connecting the two, it was a bargain price(we don't smoke, or have animals, and it was in GREAT condition).  After a week or so up on craigslist we got a buyer.

The lady gave me her phone number via email and then I called her.  She had a gravelly voice(probably a long time smoker) but seemed pleasant enough on the phone.

She was only 20 min away and was coming to pick up a shelf in the same town, so I went to haul the couch out of the garage.  She showed up with little to no issue and was a nice lady, but looked like she had been doing drugs for most of her life.  She had a nice truck though, so it hadn't hampered her ability to function in society...

She was nice and seemed tired and I offered to put the couch in the back of her truck (it was fairly light, and i'm you know, buff).  Anyways I used my knife to cut her nylon rope and tied down the couch and cinched it all very tight. 

During this task I start to hear a whining incessant voice coming from inside the Truck.  Come to find out, there is a 16ish girl inside the truck who has been "lurking" there, every once in a while sending furtive looks at me and my girlfriend(never even came out to say hi).  

At first, the chatter between the mom and the daughter seemed like a slightly annoyed parent telling her ignorant daughter that this couch was in fact a great deal, and that the daughter had in fact, been the one to pick the couch out on craigslist and tell her mom that it was a great deal.  The mom asked her daughter to come out and help and all we heard was whining, and complaining about how the pictures were misleading, the couch wasn't really as big as it was in the 4 posted pictures I had put online from different angles. 

The daughter's incessant whining became constant, and louder, and even more annoying.  She said the couch wasn't worth anything, that it had to be like 20 years old and she wanted a nice new leather couch..."but mom its only $800 on craigslist"...the mom responded that no way was she able to afford that much right now.

Sounded to both me and her mother like she was trying to spend mom's money without a thought.

We continued to ignore her, as she became more and more annoying and just downright rude.

After I had cinched up the rope and the rig was ready to go the lady talked my girlfriend down $50, just to get rid of the annoying daughter.  The mom paid my girlfriend and got into the car and turned on the car, and closed the door right as the daughter started yelling loudly at her mom.

after a few moments, the car door opened and the mom came out and said "fuck it, I'll buy another couch".

My girlfriend said that the deal had been made and I had spent 20 min tying the couch down. 

The lady wanted her money back and my girlfriend said "no way".  The daughter hopped out of the truck and said to my girlfriend"bitch you better give me my money or i'm going to punch you in the face."

That surprised the hell out us...

So we told them we were going to call the cops and that they needed to leave.  we went inside...and we could hear the daughter calling the cops trying to "get on their good side".

We called the cops and they were on the scene in about 4 min( we live 4 blocks away from the station)

The cops face was priceless, he could barely contain a laugh (the daughter was bitching out his partner) as he asked us if we had been paid the money.  Since we had he told the mom and daughter they had to leave the premises the police decided to escort them out of town.

All in all without the daughter the transaction would have been great, and if the lady had wanted a refund we would have given it.  But, after being bitched out by a proxy conversation for 20 min discussing how "shitty" our couch was, both me and my girlfriend weren't in the mood to be generous.

and that $300 is now ours...muhuahuahuahua!
