Elemental: War of Magic 1.3 Released!

Stardock is excited to announce the release of the v1.3 update for Elemental: War of Magic.  Current customers can update to the latest version via Impulse, and this update includes a variety of updated features and fixes.

Full changelog is available here, but here are some highlights:

  • Economy tweaked and fix for out of control population
  • AI more reactive about updating strategy when a target city has been conquered / destroyed
  • Janusk has been removed. Goodbye old friend. See you in the Fallen Enchantress tutorial...
  • Modders can set the base cost of repeatable improvements in the appropriate .xml file
  • Special buildings now longer required to build special units. Instead, these buildings provide bonuses
  • Notable locations may now be explored regardless of your level.
  • New notable locations added to provide weapons, armor, and other "stuff"

Magog, chill.  First and foremost....my sovereign needs a wife in every town.  My sovereign makes a lot of towns too.  And changing the world isn't an easy task.  He needs to be....re-energized....frequently.

-.-

Great news. I'll give it a spin. :)

What does 'Economy tweaked and fix for out of control population' mean exactly?  Is it still crippled for too many cities or is this fixed?

Hi, thanks for your work on 1.3.  Looking good, but a question and a bug..

How come I can't zoom in to ground level any more?

The game froze on Winter 164, when I clicked Next Turn.

Oh and is there a way to rotate the camera?

RE zoom:  i had to re-click (or unclick) the zoom limit function in game options.

I also have CTD issues more now than before.  In fact, the frequency of that has increased with each new version/update.  I'm not sure why this is.  It would be nice if a list of compatible drivers was made available for our troubleshooting efforts.

Aside from this game, I also have had GuildWars since its release (never crashed), Civ V (never crashed using dx11 settings on huge maps), and GalCivII (never crashed).

Me confused.

-.-

Check your game settings. They added a limiter option for zooming in that is on by default.

Many thanks ael :)

Yes, it is confusing that crashes are so common, at this late stage (or should that be early..) of development.  Ah well, time will tell...

Brad removed them. I think it was because of memory issues.

Has anyone else noticed problems with heroes or other units disappearing after battle, despite having taken no visible damage during tactical combat? I've lost a couple now (one of them my spouse!) and can't tell if they're actually dying in combat but the damage suffered isn't animated, or if they're just randomly vanishing into the aether.

I seem to get world-meanies appearing two or three tiles away from my sovereign when he's accompanied by a pioneer.  They don't come from underneath the fog of war either, but just appear in clear sight.  Not sure, but maybe there is a magical force I'm up against; one that I'm unaware of??

I am beginning to suspect that perhaps the beacon of hope is actually the beacon of death.  I'm going to try a few games without building that thing to see if it makes a difference in meanie spawn characteristics.

edit--

Oh..and I forgot to mention.  A potential recruitee stole one of my unprotected pioneers.  So I killed the bitch.

Been a few months since I've played a game of Elemental.  1.3 seems as good of time as any to jump back in.  Keep kicking ass Stardock!

I found this too from the last beta to now, if you auto-resolve combat this issue doesn't happen, if you use tactical resolution hand to hand damage is always resolved at the same time.  Even if you kill the dude you hit first.  You unit will remain on screen though wit h0 health and only die after combat finishes, one way around is to kill last opponent with a range weapon and prior to that heal any unit at 0 health once so they don't die, just are very badly hurt.

Maybe they can fix this, it only showed up after the patch that brought in 4 min size combat units and altered health of units.  At least this is when I saw it first, and I noticed it the same way, you have clean wins on screen but people disappear after battles.

Cheers,  CP.

I'm really wanting to enjoy 1.3 - but there are just too many bugs and shortcomings.  Black boxes where there should be icons, random game freezes..  I still have no idea (apart from having to check the roster each time) if a city needs more housing to grow..  The landscape is so dull and barren, it really doesn't inspire me to want to explore.  Huge labyrinths, towers and libraries suddenly appear just metres from my cities, to provide yet another dissapointing potion so I can walk faster for 5 turns.  There is no feeling that enemy factions will appear from across the seas, no sense of a dangerous world of dark forests and foreboding elements.  Throw in a blizzard once in a while, during Winter - that reduces food for a couple of years.  Make the world more interesting, pleeease...  Surely it's not that hard to do.

Oh and I still can't get my units to retreat from tactical battles - they just gather in those ethereal white tiles, with no exit from the battle.

I attack a bandit with my Sovereign and the camera suddenly, inexplicably leaps to a random part of the world - why is it still doing this?

These are problems that existed in the first release version of WoM - why are they still persisting?

There still seems to be no polish at all to the game.  It's baffling, and disappointing.

Everytime  a new version comes out, I give it a shot. I was really hoping 1.3 would be playable for me.

It isn't. I'm still getting lots of crashes. I honestly can't give a fair opinion of the changes because I can't keep a game going for very long. My last game crashed after maybe 10 turns.

Really a shame, because I greatly appreciate all the hard work still going into Elemental. I'll keep trying new versions in hopes for improvement. I really, really hope FE is more stable from the start, and stays stable with patching.

Last I checked only champions and sovereigns may retreat. Normal troops cannot.

I'm not getting the crashes most folks here are, but I've given up on Elemental becoming a good enough game for me to play before FE comes out.  It's not horrible, but I've got other better options.  I finally uninstalled.

I'll be back for FE though.
