my 2 cents

my 2 cents

So, I'm going through the wallpapers to find one to highlight with my next blind (settled on Skyzyk's chopper) and found a picture of a dead leaf with 8 stars. A dead leaf, 8 stars, wtf.

I'm thinking to myself that I have better pictures than that where my finger got in the way and decided to upload a set of 5 pretty damn nice wallpapers. Much better, to me at least, than a dead leaf.

1 approved and the other 4 regulated to my personal page, very disappointed.

I've always stayed out of the wallpaper rants and bitching as I had not uploaded wallpapers and had no experience to comment on. Now I guess I do and can empathize with those that have had their work regulated to personal pages (or rejected outright) when work that appears to be of lesser quality is allowed to become part of the public galleries.

Jellyfish

Dandelion

Yellow flower

Rose-2

I'll be deleting these over the weekend, if anyone is interested grab them while they're here.

Ratings...personal pages....etc.  It's all a dead horse that has been beaten hundreds of times.

and probably many times over and over again. But at least now I have a better understanding of how others may feel having their work rejected/regulated.

please remember if anyone is interested in any of these they will be deleted sunday evening.

I have quite a number of photographs that I would be willing to make into various sized wallpapers however it seems like a lot of hassle just to get it rejected/regulated. any thoughts on a process to pre-approve wallpapers before I make these various sizes and zip them up?

Seth, wtf is that symbol suppose to represent, may I ask?

Jafo, I took your comments as the reason for rejection. I can't tell when you comment officially or unofficially.

Those were mine.  Each had 4 prior posted opinions by the Moderators.

None conflicted.

Well, you're certainly entitled but the effect was intentional.

I'm still trying to figure out why this was rejected.

its about one person questioning the logic of the mods choices.

what is so wrong about that?

Just another 'horse' get flogged.

well from an artists point of view, id rather slit my fucking throat than put a dead leaf wallpaper on My desktop.

but hey, each to their own right?

I like nature wallpapers.

actually, I think an 'artist' can see art in dead leaves....  link...     ;)

I suppose it depends on your definition of 'artist'..

is an artist anyone who can put a brush to paper and produce something reasonably aesthetic.. or controversial.. or whatever..

someone who can creatively photograph nature... at it's finest.... or simplest..

press some buttons on a software program and produce something quite dazzling... whether tasteful or not..

I think 'artist'  has too broader spectrum of interpretation to state that, as an 'artist'... a dead leaf could not be found.. artistic..

I suppose I end up using a higher percentage of nature walls than abstract/digital... because there seems to be a higher percentage of people on the net producing  quality creative nature photography with or without some manipulation.... and fewer 'artists' who are talented enough as 'graphic artists' to be able to produce quality art from software..

and, as always, it comes down to individual taste..

Still waiting for the flood of nature wallpapers to disappear finally, anyways. Seen enough leaves already, dead or living. :P

has been a wish unfulfilled, I am truly amazed at some of the work that comes from graphic artists.

Thanks Po, I agree, I don't understand it either.

I've been PM'd why, thanks.

i personally think that you can only call yourself an artist if you were born with the god given talent to do anything naturally in the artistic field, like paint, sculpt, draw ect.  , for me that is the limit, and since I was blessed with the god given talen to draw, I guess i can afford to be protective of the term.

yes, the term artist is flung around to loose these days, if you can use photoshop and a brush, your an artist. (rolls eyes) that dont cut it for me.

but hey this isnt the subject at hand, and im not one to hijack threads.....

but as I said before, each to his own.  i just happen to think a dead leaf isnt art, but it dosent mean 20 people standing in line behind me will agree.

and yeah.....why the hell where gregs links removed? they were just links to his art for christ sakes.....

this is getting pathetic.

the links were gone, but I was still able to download from personal site to have a play with.... would still like to see you do something with the jellyfish one...

Seth, wtf is that symbol suppose to represent, may I ask?

The Google+  +1 symbol means exactly the same as the facebook "Like this" and was referring to "beating a dead horse".

While I understand your frustration (it's happened to a number of my walls as well), I shrugged and tried to learn from it. I also became angry but discussed it with a very well respected artist in pm. She told me her truth in a female way and it made me stop and look twice. And again.

In retrospect, I think I should have "added" fewer Ps effects (which I had become enamored of) and applied them more tastefully. I think the "Doc's Pond" base image had more going on than the effects. Sort of like spices in cooking... to accentuate rather than replace the taste of the food itself.

There's no shame involved in being a member of the largest club here. It's happened to artists far more talented than you and I.

The links were removed as they bypassed the spirit and intent of the uploads being sent to your Personal Pages.

My second comment on this thread referenced that, however leaving you the opportunity to make amends apparently failed.

skyzyk appears to have taken that one on. there's more talent there than here and I'm looking forward to what will be done with it.

thanks Doc, guess I don't get around much, had no idea what it meant.

it's not always nature vs nature either

it's about how good is the picture AND how well does it work as a wall

the closest to work for me would be the jellyfish but would prefer more area around it so not as much would be blocked with desktop items (just looking at the shot posted)

dandelion and yellow flower - too blurred and too much like just having a solid color wall

rose 2 - maybe if tighter, clearer and had a really cool bug/spider/baby lizard on it

the leaf mentioned works for me to use during autumn or a drought

you can call anything 'art' - anybody can call themselves an 'artist'

but true appreciation is based on the perception of others

that picture from years ago (forgot who did it) - black dot on white background

art? not to me - to me just means the artist ran out of ideas, spent about 10 min on the pic and probably a couple of hours forming a plausible 'this is what it represents

giant can of soup - art?

not to me - to me, just a giant can of soup

ahhhh..... but Marilyn? That was art!

WOW....love the screenshot of Redneck Dudes WB. I use this same WB almost exclusively, it's my all time favorite!! I even made some very cool Windows 7 style folders with wood grain texture to match the blind. The wallpaper in that screenshot of a dead leaf is interesting to say the least, and matches quite well, I need a copy of that. I have contemplated uploading my private collection of folder icons I created for this Blind in particular, but... I procrastinate because undoubtedly, someone will say I stole their technique for creating a wood grain effect, even though I learned in Graphics 101 that there is only a small number of ways to create the wood effect. So who needs the grief over that? not me of course.
