[Gameplay] Archery

I like the way that combat is going.  The glass cannon thing is fine, as combat should be deadly.

In regards to archery, I feel it would be awesome if the most one arrow could kill would be one troop.  So if my hero Felix, who is nasty good with a short bow,  shoots into a group of 4 swordsmen say with a total of 16hp, and he gets lucky and rolls 12 damage, the most that would happen was that 1 swordsman drops and the group goes down to 12hp.

But if my elite group of 8 crude short-bowmen fire into the same group, then they would be perfectly capable of removing the foul presence of the swordsmen, that is if the are lucky and get a good roll.

Another problem is that none of the AI fractions research and build archery units.

My winning strategy is: 1 Sovereign casting Spell Blast or that Earth Spell that reduces movement of targeted unit + 1 (or 2) champions (with magical bows) + 3 groups of Archers embark on a campaign of razing enemy cities. Attack - Capture - Raze City - Repeat = 100% success - and pretty boring as the opponent lacks the ranged attacks to counter it and their units die before they can engage my units. If the enemy threatens my capital city, I just teleport my entire army back home.

I noticed that.  Maybe they are mainly going for the combat numbers.  Although, a few versions ago, I remember a game where the ai made plenty of archers, but the combat mechanics where completely different.   Maybe there are some in my current match, I haven't met everyone yet.

Actually, Tarth does train archers and hence I always have tarth as an enemy because like you said, 3 archers pretty much owns everything.

I really wish that the AI spends more time training archers AND using higher armor, i high armor opponent might actually be able to make it to my dudes and do significant damage, but as it is 2 shots and everything basically goes down

This is a really good point. Unless the hero is using some kind of spell or multi-arrow / giant ballista piercing arrow ability, one arrow should kill one guy.
