Plymouth Patch Article about Stardock

Here's a great article about Stardock from a local website.

http://plymouth-mi.patch.com/articles/plymouth-based-software-game-development-company-looks-to-future

In lieu of a front-desk receptionist is a young, bearded man in a purple t-shirt, cut-off shorts and flip-flops. This is Matt Bertsch, a technical adviser for the independent software company. On his desk sits a variety of emptied craft-beer bottles, statuettes, a variety of props and an opened deck of playing cards.

Bertsch explains that the usual receptionist just moved to Dallas for other Stardock-related duties as he retrieves Brad Wardell, the president and CEO of Stardock, who occupies a top-floor office with his dog.

from the article

he said Microsoft’s Windows 7 already looks pretty nice and the________ has shifted away from the desktop enhancements and into practical software, such as Multiplicity

Notice the underline? There is a word missing in the article that could change the entire meaning of this statement. No sense "panty bunching" over a missing word now is there?

Another line..

but would want to keep that work separate from the software and games Stardock currently produces

Notice it does NOT say "in place of".. it says SEPARATE.

Once again... "panty bunching" over what you THINK was said instead of what was ACTUALLY said.

Such drama queen behavior over nothing....

Phoon....

I personally don't see (or read into) any drastic changes in the near future but eventually I'm sure there will be. I mean, doesn't EVERYTHING change eventually? And obviously Stardock is a business (WC is a website) and if desktop enhancements no longer prove profitable (and I'm not saying they aren't), shouldn't more emphasis be placed on products that are? If it were your business, what would you do? Skinning IS changing and will continue to change and although it's a hobby I love, if it ended tomorrow I'd be disappointed but it wouldn't be an earth shattering event by any means. If folks really do feel that passionately about making sure the skinning "thing" continue, maybe some emphasis be placed toward developing NEW types of skinning software themselves...

Oh, a comment one of my co-workers made today stuck in my head, "these folks are connected online but disconnected to real life". I believe I replied, "So true"....

Something that really is absolutely missing : Some OPEN AND HONEST WORDS about the state of Object Desktop and RELIABLE plans about it.

No more "It will get better !" promises, We've had that for over 2 years now. We've had wishlists and bug-lists (even initiated by Brad) over and over just to watch them disappear in the mud of the forums and nothing happen. We've seen good people just disappear for example in the course of Desktop X's downfall.

Sure fences and Tiles are successful. We have no newer builds of nearly anything than those. Look how Nexus was overtaking ObjectDock, which is not state of the art anymore and will not be anytime soon in favour of Fences and Tiles.

I agree with you 100%, however, right now, I don't see the point to renewing my ObjectDesktop software if it's just going to stay the same.  I can always renew when/if something new and improved happens with it.  I renewed last time out of hope/faith that it was going to be improved.  Fool me once....

Vote by wallet tends to get a company's attention, that's for sure. Words vs. $$$$...the latter ALWAYS wins out. :|

I'm with you. Just went to Registrations to see when my subs are up, which now redirects to the new Stardock MyAccount, and I don't even know when my subscriptions expire. Previously Impulse would let me know when my sub was about to run out, now how will I know?

I've been a Stardock/Wincustomize supporter and customer for over 7 years, and it makes me really sad to see how steadily the quality and service had declined over the past few years.

I've heard some rumblings about Stardock Central, or something new coming up soon that will be Impulse for just Stardock stuff, mostly for the desktop side- but that was a while ago.  Unsure what's going on there.

You can go to My Account-->Past Orders-->and then add a year on to the date of your last order.

Imprecise, but I guess it works. Although...it doesn't help if someone else purchased the subscription as a gift.

So, an issue of the expediency of timing re the Impulse sale equates to a steady decline of quality and service?

Not all that long ago, Impulse was the spawn of Satan and reviled by all.  Now it's sale [which directly impacts upon the ongoing viability of Stardock's skinning apps and Stardock as a whole] equates to the sky is falling.

Now, I, too have been a Stardock supporter/customer, however for an even longer time [probably 12 years] and in that time nothing has changed at all. [though I did get older].

Every now and then products/delivery systems evolve.  Sometimes there are overlaps or gaps in functionality/success....eventually they are resolved.

No-one dies, the world doesn't end and the sky still hasn't hit the ground....;)

Wasn't referring to Impulse specifically Jafo (and it seemed like it was only the gamers viewed it as the Spawn of Satan, and now who gets to keep it? They do.). More about the less frequent updates, new enticing features and incentives that were later abandoned (premium skins for subscribers, photo albums from the older version of WC), all the hype and eventual let down of new versions of favorite programs (OD2), and so on. To say that "nothing has changed" seems a bit naive or in denial to me. They keep bringing out "new fantastic tools" (Fences, etc) that are cool in their own right, but then the products that originally brought us here (Windowblinds, OD, DX) are now ill-fated step-children.

I will just have to wait and trust the Old Experienced ones, like. No I'm not going to say it, why not.

Sorry Jafo.

My main concern with all of this waiting is as old as I am I will probably be taking a nap when the news of updates and new programs gets announced and I will miss the party.  :S

John, just keep making those great suites and leave us to worry about updates for the programs that make the stuff for you.

Now I see you have just read this so go take a nap.
